Official furlough guidance from my fedgov agency

The govt doesn't even bother to notify its own employees when the shutdown ends. They have to rely on fake news outlets. What a joke.
I'm going to skip a few days after it ends and blame "conflicting media reports" if called out on it...

Have you considered getting a job in the private sector?
Posted on 1/14/19 at 10:15 am to gizmoflak
That is SOP for all Fed agencies during a shutdown.

I have.
I even went to law school.
Turns out fedgov is wayyyyy too cushy to give up.

What do you do where this is the case?

Money is not the issue. It's about being stuck in an unfulfilling, soul-sucking career.
I would make the leap to a law firm or industry, but I'd have to take a large pay cut, give up lots of benefits, work a helluva lot more, give up massive work schedule flexibility, forego infinite job security ... just for the chance at something more fulfilling and possibly more lucrative down the road. I think my ship has sailed on that opportunity. My mid- or late-20's was the time to do it.

Skip an extra week and say, "I don't watch the news..."

This is 180 degrees from how it should be.
Nobody should want to work in government.
You’re welcome for your check

In my office, the front line managers will let us know either by text message or phone call to let us know when to return to work.

Pretty much every single federal government job pays better than private sector.
Obviously there is the 1% in the private sector making mid 6 figure salaries, but your average lawyer, janitor, etc gets paid more and has better benefits if they are federal.

Maybe secretaries.
We can look at pay scales for government, and I don't see the STEM folks getting paid more in government. I doubt the accountants do either on average, and probably other folks like planners, project managers, or contract reps.
Now jobs that are inherently governmental like park services, foresters, LEO/Fire and the other ones that private industry don't really have, I bet that would be the case, but let's not go too crazy.

So you are part of the deep state? Parmen make a notation of this for your records.

Any comment from federal employee affected by the shutdown = “Why haven’t you saved?” “Get a private sector job.” Every. Time.
