It’s a shame because they have a great front office. Would love to see what they could do with some more money to spend

Nashville or Charlotte would love to have them.

Portland or Montreal

RIP. I’ve been to the Trop a few times. Great seats, cheap prices. It’s like St Pete’s best kept secret.

Portland gets a ton of rain. Would definitely have to be a retractable rooftop stadium.

Portland hardly gets any rain April through September. It would need to be a retractable roof not for rain but because it can be hot as balls in Portland in the summer.
ETA: TDers thinking Portland is the same as Seattle. Portland is 70 miles from the coast in a valley. It bakes in the summer. Seattle stays cool on the water.

It was basically closed off already anyway.

Portland doesn't rain any more than Seattle and they make due.

Prob because they have a retractable roof

Yeah, they are averaging 15k fans per game so lowering the capacity to 25k isn't a big deal and doesn't change anything.

Montreal
Screw that. The city had a team that was pretty much Tampa north.
Even with closing the upper deck, the Rays probably don’t near a sellout this year.

Been to the Trop a couple of times. Place is a complete dump

The Rays's average attendance of 14,259 last season ranked 29th out of 30 major league clubs. Only the Miami Marlins (10,014) drew fewer fans.

Portland needs to trade their minor league team to Tampa for the Rays

Montreal averaged nearly 22k in the early 90's
They were still lower than the league average in attendance but not criminally lower like TB and MIA

Marlins also close their upper deck too, during the week at least

They need to move the Rays to Nashville. A team would do really good there and I believe the city would support the move with a new stadium.
