Can a President who is being impeached by the House just do nothing in response?

I will preface this by saying, I don't think the Democratic led House is really going to go forward to try to impeach Trump.

I'm just asking, though, if they decided to stupidly do so, could the administration and the House Republicans just decide not to participate in any of the proceedings AT ALL? I don't think there is anything that would constitutionally mandate them to do so.

He can do everything that he did while Ryan was speaker less signing tax reform legislation.

The House voting to impeach doesn’t have any practical effect on the President. It’s the Senate that would decide to remove/censure/do nothing.

Considering we finally have a Senate that under almost no circumstances would find anywhere close to 67 votes against Trump... yes

And if Roberts wants to have a wise idea to be hero of the left again I vote put the foot down and say enforce that ruling bitchboy. The US Secret service and Department of Defense vs. US Marshall Service battle royale. I know who wins.

I think participation would be fun and good for the pubs.
Just think of all the comments and responses that would be missed if they sat out?

Their strategy is to hold up Trump with endless, baseless charges and investigations in order to prevent him from accomplishing anything more for his remaining term. Pretty much will guarantee a Trump reelection because the amount of bullshite about to come from the Dems will be staggering.

it depends on how many Romney's there really are.

it will all be a dog and pony show just like all public hearings. honest Bob is now going after nudie pics from the muh russians firm that paid for pokemon. Mueller can go to a microphone at any time: and be all dramatic and break into soap operas and says HE recommends criminal charges for POTUS.

Some R's may say, 'wow, we have to listen to honest Bob.' OR, he could just investigate until the cows come home to put a black cloud over the Trump Presidency.

But if ALL the Dems in the House fail to impeach after campaigning and promising to impeach...

Orange Man's the Liar though!

I guess he could chose not to attend the trial, and waive the right to put on a defense. That doesn't seem all that good of an idea.

If the House passes impeachment articles, the Senate has to hear the case. Regardless of whether the Executive "does" anything or not.

Democrat to Introduce Articles of Impeachment Against Donald Trump
LINK

Well, that didn't take long.

"Sherman (D-Northridge) is reintroducing a measure that he first rolled out in 2017. But this year it carries more political significance: The decision of whether to act on it rests with Democrats — not Trump’s Republican allies.

Sherman’s articles of impeachment accuse Trump of obstructing justice by firing former FBI Director James B. Comey, among other wrongdoing."

Let's see if the Democrat house passes it.

trump could ignore what happens in the house, but he couldn't do it in the senate. I don't see him ignoring it though.

try googling clinton, he actually got impeached by one side of congress because he committed crimes.

in trumps case there is no crime other then wanting what is best for america and its citizens and fighting against those trying to destroy it and them
