Why do so called professional announcers continue to make the dumb mistake of calling it "Hook and Ladder" when the correct term is "Hook and Lateral". I guess it shows that you don't really have to have a brain.

That’s my favorite sandwich at firehouse subs.

Umm, because hook and ladder has been used for decades and is widely accepted as the same thing as hook and lateral?

Only accepted by people that don't know any better.

Because that’s what they called in Varsity Blues and if you are gonna tell me that Jonathan Moxon is wrong we are going to have a problem. He went to Brown and was extremely intelligent. And what about that really disguised way of calling that play from Lance Harbor. No way the other teams coaches could have stolen that signal.

Just like irregardless is used to mean the same as regardless. It is kind of foolish.

Neither are wrong. Different for different playbooks/teams. The play may also be referred to as the "Hitch & Pitch", as well as some other names.

For all intensive purposes Hook and Ladder means the same.
