Are the New Orleans Saints the most unique franchise in all of sports?

I’ve been to many different sporting events at many different venues. Everywhere I go I always find myself comparing my experience to a Saints game. Saints have a uniqueness to them like no other sports teams, from the New Orleans music played in dome, to the chants, the fan outfits/apparel, the unequivocal massive support no matter how bad the team is. The culture surrounding the Saints is unreal of course I’m biased but damn after coming back from a bland experience in Charlotte Monday night I can’t help but think of all the good times I have in the dome and in New Orleans on gamedays

There are other towns similar but it’s pretty rare. I’ve noticed similar support for the spurs here in San Antonio.

Houston has nothing like that for any of their teams.

New Orleans is the definition of unique.

That’s why we love it.

Saints I think set the standard, but I must say going to Green Bay last year was legit. It's amazing how a whole town pretty much really just shuts down and goes to a football game. Plus beer and cheese are awesome.

The difference between the Saints and teams like the Spurs and even Green Bay as the other poster mentioned is that we aren’t a historically winning franchise yet we still have an experience like none other.

The only comparable NFL franchise is Green Bay probably. There's just no place in the world like New Orleans and our culture feeds into the Saints. I mean, it may be pure coincidence but the murder rate is at a record low right now and our Saints are the best damn team in the world... times are good

Green Bay (Milwaukee too), Buffalo Pittsburgh are the closest to New Orleans in terms of % of residents passionate for their NFL team.

Denver and (surprisingly) Boston and Seattle are also huge for their NFL teams.

I think so, yeah, but I'm also biased.

Going to an OKC Thunder game on NYE, I hear that's a cool experience too.

As far as the city experience directly correlating with the team I'd say only Green Bay had a similar experience. Seattle, Kansas City seem like they would be next closest.

I think he's talking about the city/team full package experience. Not necessarily just great fans/good teams in general.

Ha! You’re correct.
It is funny.

But.

This is a Saints Talk board that is on a Tiger Droppings site.

Not many here give one frick about hockey in Montreal or soccer wherever.

And you’re comment about sure it’s up there?

Really.

Now that is funny.

The percentage of eyeballs watching the Saints games in New Orleans exceeds any other professional team on the planet IMO. Green Bay and Pittsburgh are up there as well.

Most of the teams you name and cities you name dont come close (Montreal is a possible exception). Do you really think that more than 20% of Muscovites watch even the biggest hockey match of the year? They dont.

to some extent yes, but most teams have loyal fan bases with as much love and support as us, its our uniquely nawlins way we do things that i think gives us something no other team fan base can match

The Green Bay Packers definitely qualify, seeing as they're the only publicly owned / run franchise.

If "unique franchise" includes opening game spectacles that make the masses cringe, I'll add the Vegas Golden Knights to the list.

The biggest misconception I constantly address out here is that many think that the Saints and New Orleans have this huge bond due to Katrina. I tell folks that may have strengthened the bond...but it was there well before then. New Orleans lived and died with the Saints back when that meant a whole lot of dying and very little living.
