We’re talking about personal days.

They’re quite literally used for any purpose.

This post reminded of something that happened a few years ago. One Friday my supervisor was acting like an insufferable prick. Our group/department of four (including supervisor) was under some deadline work. When Monday rolled around two of my co-workers called in sick. It was just me and the prick supervisor. I think he got the message and gave some kind of backhanded apology. I didn't care..he was a worthless prick.

and anyone who takes a "mental health day" or a "self care day" is likely posting on social media about it and is likely desperate for attention.

I don’t post about it, but I absolutely will take a sick day if I just need to get the frick away from the shite at work/coworkers and I’ve reached my all out of fricks to give moment.

As far as I’m concerned it’s a “sick day”, it’s just that I’m sick of the bullshite. I tend to be in a better mindset to get shite done when I come back.

People should take more mental health days, especially the way we work the people in our country. My Dad rarely took off when he worked and his biggest regret in retirement is not taking enough time to take care of himself. Especially physically.

I call a day off a "safety break." It is taken for my safety and the safety of those around me.

there's a huge difference between on the job safety and taking a day off work champ. don't confuse the two.

That's a bit much. Self care days in general can be good though. When people say I'm going to the doctor for a sore throat, etc. everyone says good you are getting it taken care of. However, when someone says they are going to a therapist for anxiety, depression, etc. they are a wacko. Mental health ultimately affects physical health. I don't see a problem in dealing with things that may effect your work performance.

One of the dumbest things companies do is set days, that you’ve earned by the way, as a specific absence type. I’ve earned those days through my work. I should be able to take it to do what the frick I want.

If you mean days when I'm home alone and accomplish nothing other than beating off twice, then yes

Yeah it’s called the weekend. Or from 5:30PM to 11PM Monday thru Friday.

I don’t even get vacation time yet. My employer is old school.

I do...that's when I go hunting. Although I call it my "frick the office, I only care about myself hunting" day.

Hell, the other day I said to myself, "Self!"

"What?!"

"You need to go hunting today."

I don't understand the people who build up their leave. There was a guy who just retired that had 3000 hours of annual and 1500 sick.

I'm just thinking to myself what if you died before getting that in a check?

Taking a personal day is fine.

Attention whoring about it on social media is just being an a-hole.

Why didn't your two co-workers fill you in about the call out?

How is it different from a sick day? Hey boss, I'm puking.....or I've got a migraine that'd make me worthless.

I’m not bragging. I’m complaining. I want to go back to 7/7. Not built for the 9-5.

Yea, frick that

A guy at my job worked two days a week for the last year and a half to use up his leave. His job duties allowed for that luckily, but I have no plans of building up a bank of personal days I'll never be able to use.

Who retired?

What do you do and when did you start it? I didn’t get time off when I first got hired but I was hired in the middle of October. Once January hit, I had all of my PTO earned.
