For water, one could always harvest rainwater as well.

Going oriental on the dogs and cats? Solid thinking.

We do ... but you run into a problem with that if nuclear fallout is in the air or if the Yellowstone Caldera is dumping dust everywhere.

If you do go with a rainwater runoff system on your gutters be sure to use an Australian catch valve system. The Aussies are brilliant about how they use rainwater catch systems ... they've been doing it a long time in the Outback.

Unless you're a hundred plus miles from a population center it doesnt matter what you have. The mob will overtake you.

Better is to plan a strategy to get to that location. I have a fully gassed vl4 wheel drive vehicle in a shed with faraday cage. And enough extra fuel in the back to get most of the way to nowhere Rockies. Weapons and supplies for 2 weeks are in the vehicle. If shite hits, I'm gone pecan.

Staying is a bad bad idea if you're near a city

Guess I will be buying more primers, powder, and bullets this week. Plus another pallet of already loaded ammo.

The issue I see is trying to make it that far while avoiding population centers. Also roads will be choked up with vehicles that won’t run due to EMP

I have deer, a pond in my back yard and a propane grill. I can fire up the generator from time to time to charge phones.

I will be ok

How many of you baws have two weeks worth of food and water?

10 days here.

Stored. Option to bump water to 14-16.

I work in an energy generation field.

The backlog to replace the massive step transformers is ridiculously long.

Measures are being taken now to reduce the effects from an emp type situation.

Our local area would be ok power wise I think. Transmission would be very problematic depending where and what would be hit.

You own a couple of thousand acres? You plan to stay up all night, every night to prevent theft of garden/livestock?

Real Life SHTF in surving the war in Bosnia

quote:

As I walked into the apartment, I could smell the soup and bread, and my stomach grumbled. I knew that the soup was made from the last of the meat from my pet rabbit, but hunger knows no loyalty or sentiment.

quote:

reiterate: no matter how much supplies you’ve stockpiled, they will eventually run out during a SHTF situation. The best thing you can do to prepare is to live near reusable resources.

This includes:
Water source like a stream
Yard for gardening
Woods with trees for fuel

Even this isn’t necessarily going to save you. One Sarajevo siege survivor talked about the garden they made on their apartment balcony. They had to decide whether to eat the tomatoes while they were still young and small, or wait for them to grow and risk having them get stolen.

Also note that within 2 months every tree in the city parks was cut down for fuel and warmth. The reusable resources around you will be in high demand, so don’t count on them being there for you. People tore up their floorboards to burn for heat!

frick, it will be like SERE school all over again.

In all honesty it doesn't take a whole lot to "survive" for 2 weeks. It would just suck not having all the shite you're used to having.

Should this be "Where there is no Doctor" and "Where there is no Dentist"? Those are the survival/village handbooks.

I'm honestly asking because I'm trying to get some stuff together.

what in the frick of fricks? I remember that congress critter that went off the grid; they did an article on him at his home in the mountains off the grid. He was vvv brilliant IIRC, and this was years ago... the thing that bothers me most is all of the govt agencies that stock piled a crap ton of guns, ammo and military tanks, jeeps, trucks... also if this were to happen, the sjw progs would be the worst off. I live in the middle of the woods in BFE and was pulled to do this from many other plans. this is sad though. call it crazy all day long, but this could happen and all of the elites have nice bunkers. we prep for hurricanes. Imagine a hurricane with 6 mos of no power/food.

Good to go here baw... It's funny all those SJWs that say we are stupid and ignorant, are the ones who will come out on top of a scenario like this. We know how to hunt, fish and be self sustaining.
