It seems that I’ve never been in one who had been driving for more than a few weeks or a couple months at most.

They must have absurd turnover rates.

I've been in a bunch that have well over 1000 rides. You must have a shitty rating so only the newbies will take you

Not what I’m looking for in a ride service, I must say.

I drove for over a year before ending in early 2016. I was done dealing with the lowering of the rates every year.

I often wonder if after honestly factoring in the total per mile expense of operating a car do the drivers actually make a profit? From the numbers I have seen tossed around it doesn't seem possible. Maybe after driving for a short while these drivers look at their gross income versus expenses and realize its stupid to keep doing it.

Most Uber drivers I know hate driving for Uber.

I assume cab fleets have an economy of scale advantage over Uber drivers when it comes to maintenance.

Would be good if Uber/Lyft were able to pool their independent drivers together to obtain more cost effective maintenance.

Because Uber and Lyft are a godsend to educated people that don’t want to rush into a bullshite job. My last job was so fricking awful that they wanted 5:00-8:00 AM sales training after the 2016 election to make sure the sales force didn’t sleep in. That was pretty much the last straw for me (needless to say I didn’t make it to the training), and I took a few months off driving for Uber and Lyft so I wouldn’t rush into another gig. Once you get the job you’re after, you stop driving for them.

I was in an Uber last month and the driver had over 9000 rides. City Uber drivers rack up the ride numbers.

I've been doing it for over a year, but obviously part time. I couldn't imagine doing it full time long term.

might be worth it if you could use older well maintained cars, but being required to have cars newer then 5 yrs old means you are using brand new cars still under warranty to make just a few dollars as you rack up mileage and wear and tear on that new car so i cant see how its worth it unless as someone mentioned, its in a big city getting tons of rides to offset the depreciation on your new car

The requirement is 8 years in Nola and I've seen up to 11 in other markets.

I had a Lyft driver in Houston recently that told me they were using ARI (a large fleet provider) for fleet services, so I think they are already doing this. Not sure if it’s every city.

Cant be longer than a few months for Uber.

Uber in BR is bordering on mediocre to terrible now. The people on here championing Uber over the taxi service were more wrong than right.

Uber and Lyft were great ways for creative types here in L.A. to make some money on the side while hustling their acting / writing / musical dreams. Then the terrorist looking motherfunkers found out about it around 2015 and it’s hit and miss who’s gonna pick you up. If you’re driving for a ride share company full time and not looking for something else then you are doing life wrong
