Just finished watching it again after more than a decade from the last time. It’s even better than I remembered. Hollywood is throwing a lot of pure shite these days. They’ve forgotten how to really create from source material.

No CGI. No changes from the book. Just great acting. Great casting. Great score.

It still stands the test of time.

I’ll add this as a point of my resentment. I’ve read The Passage and The Dark Tower series. Both were wrongly cast from the books. Terrible waste.

Certainly another example of the Less Is More lessons from movies of old. It’s so authentic.

Agreed. Even the "good" movies Hollywood makes these days are largely shite. Look at the best picture nominees. Hackey, sappy "oscar-bait" tripe barely anyone sees.

Obviously bad movies have always existed but what passes for the "best" movies these days is pathetic.

It’s not just that. The days of casts that were huge are long gone. Cleopatra and several others come to mind. Hollywood has forgotten the face of it’s father.

Maybe someone should make a thread about wrongly cast movies from the source material. This PC shite is heartbreaking. Some of these books really need to be met with respect. Just because you are a director doesn’t mean that you get to shite on the original story with your point of view. We don’t need your point of view. We already got that from the bestselling book that you are making into a movie.

They released an updated version of the first 2 Godfather movies with scenes that were originally cut from the film and it was nice to see these additions.

To me, "The Godfather" and "Godfather II" are American mob classics and the quintessential Mafia genre movie by which all others are judged.

The only movie that comes close to them is "Goodfellas" which deals exclusively with the more American side of the mob at a later date.

That is a very solid and apropos two sentences. I hope you meant to do that.

I've seen those ... can't remember when, but I seem to remember thinking they did a good job on the cuts and that the extra scenes did not add anything to the pictures.

If I remember correctly they did more interaction between Michael and the Diane Keaton character. They did more with the Luke Abrotsi (so) characher and his interaction with the Barzinis maybe and then did more with the "he sleeps with the fishes" meeting after Luke is killed.

Godfather 1 and 2 never get old. I watch them anytime they are on.

Yeah but if you’ve seen the originals a million times it’s a cool addition.

Luca Brasi?

Not sure why the scene when Michael kills his wife's assassin, was cut from the original.

I thought it was a good scene, it was from the book, brought closure to that part of his life, he used the same method that the killer used, and it gave a glimpse into his true character.

Timeless movie.

Similarly I watched Once Upon a Time in America the other day for the first time in I don't even know how long, and was gripped from beginning to end.

I couldn't imagine Hollywood being able to do that with a 4 hour movie today.

Props to the director for cutting all the Vegas stuff about Sunny’s side piece. But it would have explained how the doc fixed Michael’s drip after the cop beat him up.

Luke A. Brazzi. I never figured out why they always used his middle initial so much.

There actually were a decent amount of cuts from the book, but they were all good. The book's biggest issue is getting stuck in subplots that don't really matter.

This is my favorite version too. It airs chronologically too instead of flashbacks.

Yep. I remember the first time I watched "Godfather II" and it kept me on my toes with all the flashbacks in that movie. It took 2-3 viewings to totally follow the action to where it all flowed well for me------and no, I'm not that dense, it was just tons of flashbacks and trying to follow the time line got sketchy at times.

Downvote away, other than Pacino's thankfully subdued performance, I don't see a damn thing intriguing about this movie. Brando was a cartoon character, I love Jimmy Caan but he's white as hell playing an Italian character. I've never understood the popularity and appeal of this boring arse movie
