Dolce and Gabbana took average and random Sicilian men they found on the streets and made them models in some 2012 campaign.

And this was their random street average male Sicilian result in 2012.

All non-professional, they come from such walks of life as student, house painter, barber, waiter or plain unemployed, and were the result of three months of casting in Sicily.

That's what the Godfather would have looked like coming from Sicily especially in the 1920's.

The Godfather would never get made today because it's not a Marvel movie

Coppola said the film—widely regarded as one of the greatest of all time—would be doomed because it doesn’t have the franchise potential of a Marvel movie:

This film could be made today but it wouldn’t get a go-ahead… It would never get through the process of getting an okay or what they now call a green light. Nothing can get a green light unless it’s a movie that they can have a whole series of them and pretty much a Marvel Comics-type of thing.

Again, I miss film.

It’s not just The Godfather that wouldn’t get made. The Bill Simmons podcast, they talked about the death of the “$23M” movie.

Strange comment considering two sequels.

I think the bigger issue with timeliness is that the five families were still very relevant in the 70's, the Colombo family war was in the news, and middle Americans were still somewhat fascinated by New York and crime in the big city.

But I firmly believe the Godfather or Goodfellas could be remade as Westerns or caper movies and still be great with good writing and a great cast.

People cannot like The Godfather and not be an action movie guy. I've watched it a few times and it isn't the worst movie but I just don't get the reputation is has as one of the best movies ever made. Brando won an Oscar because he stuffed his mouth with tissue and used a different voice, fantastic, we all know that Oscars are always given to incredible performances

When I say boring I don't mean explosions and action, I actually have no interest in action movies. I simply didn't give a crap about the characters except for Michael. My own opinion is that The Godfather is a "great" movie because everybody thinks it's supposed to be.

Of all the horrible opinions you have this is the worst. This classic example of backlash and frankly generational myopia. Obviously you were born well after this movie came out and heard your whole life how great it was, so naturally it couldn’t live up to the hype. But others of us are old enough to remember a time before “lists” ranking every thing and people declaring everything as the GOAT. And we can appreciate a movie as a great film. It’s because it’s great that it got hype, not the other way around. You clearly made up your mind before seeing and just want to be contrarian for its own sake.

this is wrong

GF is not "an action movie". In fact during production the studio complained there was not enough action. Supposedly the Carlo-Connie argument was added to juice up that section of the film.

GF is mostly talk. But it keeps our attention b/c the characters are so interesting and the situations they're in are so tense and suspenseful.

I'm probably alone but I thought James Caan's Sonny was a bit of a miscast...

Stuffing his cheeks with cotton balls during his make-up test was Brando's own spontaneous idea. He and Coppola both liked the look and had prosthetics made for the actual filming.

Imo, second greatest movie in American Cinema history only behind Casablanca.

He claimed it was boring so I made fun of that assuming he was saying it’s “boring” because not enough “explosions and f/x”. Here he is saying he doesn’t have to be an action only guy in not like The Godfather
