If safety was the primary concern, the police officers would camp out in plain view right where the speed limit changes instead of hiding out waiting to get people who don’t immediately notice the speed limit has dropped 20MPH for no apparent reason.
I couldn't agree more and this would be a legit gripe for someone who was coming through the area from out of town and didn't know any better but you knew it was a trap and where the limit changed and you didn't slow down.

Best Burger shut down a year or two ago. The dump people are talking about is near Torbert. The smell is strong enough to knock a buzzard off of a shitwagon. South wind brings the smell over 190.

I’ll gladly spend the 15 extra minutes and take I-10 through Lafayette.
Just wait until there is an accident.
Agreed. 2 weeks ago i was stuck on the basin bridge for 5 hours. not the first time that has happened to me.

Wait, you drive from Dallas to NOLA instead of taking a one hour flight?
Do you have to make work stops along the way or something else?
Trying to figure out if I am missing out on something by not driving;)
I did it once and never again after. I've flown the last three times.

I’m actually on the other side. In through with I-10 from br to Lafayette. The construction and accidents on the basin bridge are out of control. I’ve had enough. I’ll take my sweet time on 190. You just have to know that if you speed you are likely to get a ticket. Pay attention to the damn signs. This ain’t Texas where the speed limit is 70 everywhere you go.

you got a ticket in livonia?
Ha, that fricker got me 3 months ago.

The speeds are posted well in advance. And it's not nearly as patrolled/enforced as it used to be. Maybe you should slow the frick down? Way too many speeders on that highway.

They aren't speed traps if they've been in the same spots in the same towns for 30 years.
I drive 190 from Eunice to Opelousas every day and it's the best drive I've ever had for work. But then again I drove Gonzales to BR everyday for 10 years and that has to be one of the worst.
There's 2 (!) Billy's on 190, the new one is gonna be sweet.
Everyone in the state knows there are speed traps at Port Barre, Krotz Springs, and Livonia and if you don't know that then bless you.
190-I49 is eons better than I-10 pretty much in every way.

So you're questioning the motive behind enforcing a law? Don't break the law and there's no problem.
Yeah, speed limits are set arbitrarily low and then when you drive at the comfortable and safe speed for the particular road, you get popped. For the most part, speed limits are road taxes. See e.g., Earhart Expressway, a three lane highway with a 50 mph speed limit. No logical reason for this at all.

Speed traps suck (my only speeding ticket in my life was in Pine Prairie after moving out here and not knowing about it on the way to Alexandria) but unless they just all of a sudden change there's no excuse.
There's ones that have signs telling you the speed is about to change, and there's those others that just abruptly drop 20 mph and frick those last kind.

Well Louisiana is a poor state. The part you’re referring to is especially poor. why are you surprised that the local authorities take advantage of people passing through the area that are unfamiliar? Blame the state government for not spreading the wealth properly. Not the locals. It’s the corrupt state government. There’s nothing crooked about writing tickets to fund things a small Po dunk town needs

I like when people pull out in front of you on this stretch, pretty common. My favorite spot is around Trash Magic just outside of Eunice.

I-49 going through Alexandria is the later. It goes from 75 to 60 without much warning.

I drive it several times a year when traveling from East Texas to visit my daughter in New Orleans. It is an ugly drive but it's fun to notice changes each time such as a reduction in FEMA trailers. And it's worth it to stop in Krotz Springs for the boudin.

Before I49 was built, that drive to Ellick on 71 seemed to last for hours.

ETA: just a side note, if you are in Livonia, Best Burger used to be really good when i was growing up. Haven't eaten there in years, but their burgers were great. Just make sure there is a bathroom within the next 30 minutes to an hour of your drive.
Best Burger is closed

Damn, I came here to complain about the construction on Hwy 190 in Covington. You have drive damn near to Covington High School to make a damn u-turn.
