what's the reasoning aside from being obstructionists?

Ok fine. Trump will just get rid of NAFTA and there will be nothing
Fantasist job, Dems!! Great way to get support for 2020

Winning the house is the final nail in the Dem coffin before 2020

Of course. Dems will do what they've been doing the last 2 years.
Obstruct, put out no ideas themselves, all while blaming Trump for not getting more done.
The majority of elected officials are trash that are in it for personal gain. Both sides included.

Can they not pass this in the lame duck session?

Orange man bad.

Chalk this up to totally unsurprising.
The Dems will refuse to give Trump a single “win” for the next two years no matter what it is.

If it's good for America, the Dems are vehemently opposed to it.

I mean look, im not gonna say i know all the details of the new trade agreement...
But unless he articulated a significant issue with the new trade deal, this sounds alot like not wanting to give Trump the win. Thats all dems care about anyway.

I am still a little fuzzy about why Trump would need the Dem house to support any of it.
If the President negotiates a treaty, and the senate gives its approval (and nothing in the treaty otherwise violates the Constitution as ratified by the States), then the terms of the treaty are the supreme law of the land and the House doesn't get a say.

this is my understanding as well. I thought all treaties were ratified by the senate. The house I thought had nothing to do with it.

They just dont care. REgardless of what it is, they will not pass Trump legislation. Resist is the MO since day one...even if it's good for the country.

Any thoughts on how this will play in the rust belt?

He did. He said, in a self-righteous sanctimonious fashion, that his issues with the new deal are that there are not enough protections for Union Labor and something else ... I can't remember but it was something to do with taxing the wealthy because Maria called him on it ... oh, it was infrastructure and EPA related. He conflated the two but I forget how be went about that because it was such bullshite

As previously noted, if they don't approve this, Trump will withdraw from NAFTA.
So, it's a better deal, or no deal.

52 republican senators. It doesn’t matter if some dingbat House member is opposed

it's not that simple. article 1 also gives congress the authority to regulate commerce with foreign nations. a dem house could certainly assert themselves to stop all this and it would probably go to the courts
