Aside from the standard $350 sitting fee, what are the ranges for sitting fees (I realize pictures are excluded and are purchased separately).

What should one expect to pay?

And any recommendation(s) on professional photographers in the greater BR area? It seems that everyone today is a professional photographer ... almost as saturated as being a real estate agent.

Depends on the area and professional setting. Are you on location in a rural area, or high profile shot in a busy city?

My ex used to charge a healthy premium based on the location. If she had to jump a few cow fences, you were paying for it.

350 isn’t bad, but it’s hard to judge it based on limited info.

If you going to sit in their studio for 10 minutes and have no wardrobe changes, then $35 should be the ballpark. If it’s some of those around downtown and locations that will take a good bit of time, then no idea.

I wouldn't charge a sitting fee to take boudoir photos if the lady was nice looking. "Honey, it's only tasteless if both tits are showing."

It’s ridiculous

Are you going for the camo look or the khakis on the beach look?

How is that even possible? I honestly don't think I could spend that much on photography if I tried.

I’m not a professional photographer, and I’m certainly not a portrait photographer. I even pay to have my daughters’ portraits done.

As for the OP,
$350 sounds awefully high for a sitting fee, unless you are traveling somewhere to get them done.

For a family? Like one? Not extended? Ask for the ball park fee including the price of the CD. If they aren’t willing to sell you the cd for a decent price tell them to frick off.

This new thing where you pay them $500 and then they charge you $50 per photo is BS. Buy the cd for whatever $250 or whatever the going rate is and print whatever you want or your own.

Gauging photographers is pretty easy just find their website and make sure you enjoy their work. It doesn’t matter who the Jones’ used if you don’t like how their pics turned out.

There’s a poster here who spends a lot on photography.

Mingo before he became super jacked.

Remember, he’s somewhere between 5’6” & 5’8”.

Neither. Probably the white shirt with blue jean look, if I had to guess.

It's actually a little less. $295.

$350, $3.50 or tree fiddy is typically the standard reply when anyone asks on here what is the cost.

I'll look into this. I don't mind paying for their time and use of equipment. But give me the RAW files of the pictures and I should be able to decide what I want to do with them --- to print them or just keep them on a CD. I agree, I shouldn't be held hostage to having on the photographer "print" them for me.

$295?

What kind of portraits are you trying to get, family, bridal, head shots, etc?

If it’s studio portraits, that’s a little high. If it’s a location shot, beach, farm, etc and it’s multiple family shots, that’s about right.

They basically charge $75-$100 an hour

No professional photographer will sell you the RAW files because his name is going on them. And if one does sell them to you, it will be more than just having him do the editing. A good professional will ask you what you want done with the editing, and not just edit them the way he wants.

The best in BR is Jeannie Frey Rhodes. Her sitting fee is $475 I think. Some people in my family use cheaper photographers for their kids and the pics are not nearly the quality of Jeannie. It’s night and day.
