I hate to state the obvious but 1 journalist is not worth crashing the economy.

No really. He's not that important. Obama literally gave Iran, state sponsor of terrorism, billions in cash.

Stop acting like you give a shite about ethics.

Because a tape of his murder (Which Trump is too sensitive to listen too) backs up their assessment.

Uh, yeah and you know this how? You don't even realize how utterly fricking stupid you are to believe a tape exists... Do you believe there were WMDs in Iraq?

He’s just pandering to the anti-intellectual conspiracy nuts on the right.

That's BS.

No other President would so openly trash the CIA's assessment. Yes, different Presidents would react differently, but only Trump would doubt the assessment.

Only if you're an overly sensitive Democrat looking for outrage, otherwise it looks perfectly reasonable. Its almost like he's saying that he doesn't agree with the killing but that the agencies aren't 100% sure of the facts at this point so he won't make hardline statements, and that violence happens all day every day around the world; both of which are TOTALLY OUTRAGEOUS!!

He also said that "we side with the country (Saudi Arabia), NOT the Prince."

It's not even completely about the reaction. It's now more about his refusal to accept the CIA's assessment.

Ok, if the assessment is 100% accurate, what should Trump do to a country that killed one of their own at their embassy in a different country?

How do we play a role in any of this? Are you just upset that he didn't wag his finger at KSA the way you wanted or do you want crippling sanctions over this?

He wasn't. Don't move the goalposts by saying U.S. person. That's a helluva stretch in trying to make a point.

Was not a US Citizen. A Saudi Citizen actually which was why he had to go to the Saudi embassy for his papers. Again we should not be destroying our economy or the world economy over this guy.

Even if Saudi kidnapped a US military person I don’t think that would be the answer. We would negotiate a settlement and move on.

Given our current relationship with MBS, you are damn wrong that any other President would be handling this differently. This sort of leak would have never happened in the first place under a different President, for that matter.

We don't and never have given a shite about citizens' (which Khashoggi was not) welfare in that part of the world. It is realpolitik to its core.

I don't know that there is a "good" move here.

Salman (and thus Saudi) are the bulwark against Iran (and thus Russia) running rampant through the region. Salman is also pushing more westernized societal reforms and has formally recognized Israel's right to exist.

Trump could demand Salman step down or cut off US military and commerical support to the country over the Khashoggi incident, while that might feel good for the short term it could well end up being a long-term loss.
