Holstein's got the bigger upside, good size/better mechanics/grasp of offense
Finley couldn't play against Denham Springs' defense every week and came back down to earth.

Who was the last qb that LSU developed? Just asking.

I would say it was Mettenberger. He improved greatly from his junior year to his senior year.

Agreed. Poor leadership, and a bad attitude. I live in Ponchatoula, and at this point, I don’t think he’s gonna end up at LSU.

When did everyone sour so much on Finley?

He was always a project, but he is getting some real hate on this thread.

Why would any recruit expect no competition? Look at how Franks burned us. You cannot only recruit one guy.

How about we hold the opinions of LSU will never develop a QB until after Salisbury is on campus
who has Salisbury developed?

This is not a knock on any QB we are recruiting, but I really wish we would choose whether we wanted to be a team with a pocket guy or a dual threat guy.

Yeah, the philosophy is to get a QB who is a good athlete vs an athlete who PLAYS QB.

Do yall even understand what the definition of Dual threat is? It means they can pass and run....not just run. College coaches don't even pay attention to those labels. They evaluate Qbs on arm strength, accuracy, and natural ability. So please stop with the "I wish our staff would focus on this type or this type" they are going for the best Qb they can get, plain and simple. If they can run too, great.

Do you even understand how many times college coaches recruit kids that are very athletic and can throw, but are very raw and erratic in the hopes they can develop them as a passer? Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. Look at Narcisse as a prime example. He was completing in the mid/high 50's in HS, but was a big athletic kid and highly rated because of athleticism. Now he's been demoted at JUCO because his passing is erratic.

opefully we have learned to develop QB's as Finley is a project.

that is not something you don't do at a major college. If he needs development he should go to Nichols, or Slu or perhaps a juco. Winning programs need good QB's not crappy ones. Not writing Finley off but if he is as bad as people on here say we should move on.

And for Every Narcisse you have a Mariota, Tua, Milton, Cam newton, Tebow, Lamar Jackson, Pat white, Tannehil, Nick Fitzgerald, Dak, etc. You either adjust to their talents to make your offense successful or continue to suck. That's the difference. All of those above would have sucked at LSU besides maybe Cam and Tua.

I am not crazy about Finley.

Why?

He is 4-16 as a starter for Pontchatoula, including 0-14 in a very weak district.

I think which ever QB comes to LSU needs a powerful OL to block for them. All the proof you need is to look at what the Titans did to Tom freakn Brady. Even the greatest QB of all time isn't worth a damn if the time isn't given to him to makes his reads.

Another prime example is Drew Brees. Yes he does the the ball out fast BUT when he needs time he knows where to step in the pocket to give himself time and has time to wait for that big post pattern to open up. If a QB doesn't have time then you better have a route tree which gets the ball out of the QBs hands fast.

That's what I don't understand about LSU. LSUs offense needs to start with quick route trees when starting a game while mixing in some run game to soften that defense up. When you feel the momentum swing your way and the DL is tired, then you run the longer developing route trees.

I know it was Rice but LSU has the middle and the flats wide open this year almost all year so Burrow and this staff need to work on that type of game plan for the rest of this year and into next year. Chart your darn plays. Orgeron should hire a badass charting assistant who can help Steve E come up with a series of plays and especially when it comes to the RZ. LSU needs to have a more creative/aggressive set of plays when it comes to the RZ. Much more movement, end arounds, flee flickers, roll outs, HB passes, Wild cat plays designed to throw the ball. Look for the TEs, FBs, HBs and have pieces moving all over the place to get the eyes moving. If you line up in a box with 2 or 3 of your typical WRs running their typical route tree then of course you will have trouble getting TDs.

I think our OL of the future is actually an All SEC and in some cases AA OL we have coming. I really do. Our center and guards will be some of the best pulling OLman in the country. We need that tenacious attitude back!!

Finley is a project with poor accuracy at this point. Bama D would eat him up IMO.

No shite Sherlock. We have had Senior QBs on this team that Bama's D ate up. No surprise that at kid that isn't even a senior in high school would not perform well against Ala fricking bama. This is no reason to write this kid off who is from Louisiana and committed to play at LSU.

YOU take the best QB you can get, period. What ever label you want to put on him doesn't really matter at all. Brennan supposedly has a very live aRm but isn't a great runner, but he was the best we could get in that class, so we took him. PaRRIsh is supposed to be a really good runner and fairly good passer, but he was the best we could get in that class, so we took him.

You take the best players you can get. All this other stuff about 'fitting the system' is just a bunch of bs that tards on message boards think about
