I wasn't as lucky, but my brother got to meet him once in Vegas, after one of his shows. Said he really seemed like a genuine guy who appreciated his fans- and was funny as hell!

He said he was self taught and not much on reading sheet music. If that was the case, he had an incredible ear for it and great memory for music.

seems like most of the guitar greats were self taught and didn't/don't read music

Blows my mind that a person can be capable of what he did.

I was on a plane with him once and he seemed to enjoy interacting with anyone that came up to him.

For sure.

Man, the things he could have done in an ‘80s metal band. If only....

Another guy that is very underrated is Brian Setzer (from the Stray Cats). His genre is rockabilly, but man that dude can shred. Hadn’t paid attention to him since the ‘80s, then I went to his Christmas show at the casino last year. Been a fan since. Dude has chops.

RIP Roy. I’m not a fan of country music, even though I grew up in a family (old school country) that loved the music, but Roy definitely had talent and I remember him well from his Hee Haw days.

Country stars tend to be pretty down to earth, at least the old school ones.
