Yeah, that's why we are required to attend training on such things if you are a volunteer of any kind where you might be around kids. Or why our priest has talked about this horrible abuse of power at least five times in church this year and both he and the Archbishop have sent many communications out about it.
Keep believing your stupidity if it makes you feel better.
And I know much has been done in the past so I'm not trying to bury my head. I would love to crush some skulls of molesting priest.

What he is implying is that many good men who would become priests don't do so because they want a wife and a family. It's human nature. They do not seek a celibate lifestyle.
In the past, before it was "okay" to be homosexual, the easiest way to hide it from your family was to go into the priesthood. That would make momma proud and stop all of the questions about why you didn't have a girlfriend.
Now that kids can be openly gay, very few good men want to be a priest. That's the problem that is easily solved by allowing marriage.

Send you on down to the Church of England like they do their parishioners. It's a deal breaker.

This remains my biggest complaint about my religion. I don't care what a bunch of goat herders and the elders decided over the years, a man should be able to be married and have kids and still be a priest.
I argue with my wife all the time about this.

WTF is the matter with that organization?

It's all about being fully dedicated to the church, thus not leaving any time for your potential family.
But, that's just theoretical.
In a secular world, look at college football coaches. They put in 20 hour days and they are still married and have kids.

You don’t think any of this is caused by a life of “celibacy”? Why else would it be so rampant?

IMHO I don’t think marriage is the answer. If they want sex with adults they could find prostitutes male or female.
The fact that they prey on young children that really don’t know what’s going on means they are really evil.
The children were I’m sure raised that if there’s anyone you can trust it would be a priest.
Wrong answer.

How does the catholic religion still exist?
Posted on 11/12/18 at 6:59 pm to notiger1997
Matrimony DEMANDS a 100 per cent commitment of the self to the other. Nothing can be wwithheld. Nothing. Many marriages fail for this reason, the spouses hold back or are selfish, or crazy.
Holy Orders requires the exact same thing. For a priest, nothing can be held back from the Church. Allowing married priests means that the vows of matrimony or the vows of ordination will not be fully lived.

Was shocked to see my former priest, Howard Hotard named.

I see my first communion priest on that list. The years he was accused are in the time period of my first communion. What a POS.

Stupid bullshite like this is why the Catholic Church is becoming antiquated.

2000 years conditioning itself into the social fabric of the west.

My childhood priest is on the list. Not surprised as we were pretty sure something was going on back in the day as many high school aged boys would like to hang out with him at the rectory.
The church doesn't have a pedophile problem it has a gay problem that needs to be addressed if they want to see this stopped.

Looks like most of those guys were gone as soon as the diocese found out. So in New Orleans at least, there wasn't a Boston-like system of shuffling known predators to other parishes and covering up their crimes.
Not sure how much to trust the details on the list. In the case of Monsignor Hotard, although the list indicates he was removed from the ministry in 2002, his 2013 obituary states he continued to volunteer at St. Josephs Abbey since his retirement 2001. Archbishop Aymond even presided over his funeral. This doesn't sound like someone "removed from the ministry".

Oh really. What do you consider a pedophile problem then?

The priesthood was a ideal career path, almost as if by design for someone that was gay, a pedophile or both. This started when homosexuality was considered a mental illness, and anyone that was gay stayed hidden in the closet. Given that situation what better place to be than the priesthood, they could hid in plain sight among men like them, be above reproach, and respected in the community. For a pedophile you had a respected job with access to children, and power over them, better than becoming a janitor at a grade school.

When somebody molests pre pubescent boys. That's not what is happening in 90% of these cases.
