It's time to throw out this government school model we have in Louisiana and go all voucher. We have tried more money. We have tried more federal and state involvement. We have listened to politicians appease teacher unions. We have created gold standard benefits for teachers. Lucrative, long term retirement plans and gold standard health insurance have not helped. We have decided to feed kids, transport kids and baby sit kids to no avail.
It is not just a Louisiana problem. Government schools are not delivering across the country.
No political stance you can take in speaking with your local politicians is more important than school choice. Tell them you favor it.
(You can thank the Louisiana Legislators for the tax credit for private school scholarships they passed last session. Not much has been said about it but it could be a powerful tool to expand school choice.)

Okay...... so......... where’s the bait and switch to tariffs?

I’m all for limiting government when it comes to schools/education. But let’s be honest, the biggest problem with unsatisfactory performance is lazy parents producing lazy kids, and that is a direct result of government being in too much control of society in general.

School choice is great. But it's not gonna make the extremely high percentage of La. students with IQs below 90 successful in academic fields. They need to be channeled into vocational education at age 15 so they can earn a decent living wage by age 18.

Agreed but it will not happen with JBE in office. It probably will not happen anytime soon. Which is stupid because charter schools and vouchers are obviously superior to traditional public schools. Just check out this study from florida schools.
Not only did overall students do better but minority students did way better.

I'll go ahead and say it, desegregation ruined public schools. Thank the feds for that too.

You are exactly right Zach and vouchers will allow more vocational schools to be established.

So your graph shows that, in spite of scores being decimated by inner city schools, the results are pretty much at the same level. As for costs going up, I have but one issue to point out...special education. In short, SPED and it's associated costs, are basically why your graph plays out like it does. When a "student" is in a vegetative state, what exactly are we getting for the costs. That student will have a classroom, a teacher, probably an aid, and maybe even a nurse. You are ignorant to the circumstances that plague the profession so I don't blame you for your misinterpretation of data. If we were to overhaul SPED and shite-can the legislative abortion known as "No child left behind!", improvements could be implemented overnight. As far as personnel costs, I personally saw my take home pay decrease every year for a decade. It is what it is. I havent even touched on the river of money flowing to testing services such as the SAT or ACT (thank you John White...not really). All of this being said, using one graph to dissect an issue of this magnitude is unwise if your goal is to truly bring about change. Just my .02.

J B Edwards is owned by the teachers.
Not gonna happen.
Not gonna happen.

WeeWee nobody here has more reason to hate JBE and I do and I hope he gets stomped in 2019.
However he did sign the legislation for the Tuition Donation Credit Program. LINK
This is a huge opportunity to provide more money for school choice.
It is a 95% tax CREDIT for every donation made to one of the scholarship organizations. I would much rather the money I would normally spend on state taxes go to these organizations than go to the state.
If you have paid $100 in state taxes you can get $95 of it back by giving $100 to the the scholarship programs. In the end it will cost you $5 more than you would have given the state but who wouldn't rather there money be used for such causes instead of for state largesse to special interest??

I'm not even a fan of vouchers. Government should be COMPLETELY out of the education business.
That being said, I do think that vouchers would be much more preferable than the horrible system we have today.
It is easier and cheaper than ever to get an actual education, but because the state is involved, it's more expensive than ever and no improvements in achievement are being made.

Why not just put all the public school kids in jail
They end up there anyway

Why say something like that? I sent both of mine to public schools although I transferred my second to private schools in middle school.
If we are going to tax the people their entire lifetime for the expenses of education we should give them choice.
I support converting all the publics systems into private systems and let them compete for the students. Give all the education money to the people as vouchers. I know that will likely not happen any time soon but the more choice creeps into the education picture the closer we get to such a solution.

Can you trade the vouchers for cigarettes?

Voucher programs will truly create a cast system.
I am MAGA in almost all areas, but there is one thing that I do not agree with currently republicans on, it is the destruction of the public school. We need strong public schools, the answer isn’t to take your children out, the answer is to take back control from the federal government and allow local districts more control.

I'm amazed you have opinions that don't involve movie subsidies or tarrifs.
