re: Ignoring the recruiting aspect, is Leach a top 3 coach?

I’d take him at Auburn.
Let him benefit from the SEC’s natural recruiting base and see what he can do.

I would argue that he's not even the best coach in his state

Right, how long does he last there and can Leach hit on another DC hire? He certainly gets credit for hiring two good DCs in a row now though

The guy everyone forgets is Kelly
Look at what he’s done in his stops
Grand Valley St
Central Michigan
Cincinnati
Notre Dame
Two years ago people were calling Petrino the best Offrnsive coach in the country.
The one guy who will rise if he rebuilds Temple and Baylor is Rhule

He is 56-33 at one of the most resource rich programs in the country. Nobody is forgetting him
Or 78-34 if you bring back the vacated wins I guess

Tenner fricked up so bad not hiring him

Do you not remember how bad shape Notre Dame was after Weiss? It was about as bad as post Faust years
Posted on 11/4/18 at 9:48 am to sms151t
Wazzu was 4-32 in the Pac before Leach
Posted on 11/4/18 at 9:49 am to sms151t
I also remember how bad shape they were in when he went 4-8 in his 7th year at Notre Dame

you'd think the last 3 years would have taken some shine off of him. 1 good year and 2 terrible ones
Do you know how difficult it is to go from a non-Power 5 conference to a Power 5 conference and still have a lot of success? Utah hasn't had a top 15 finish since moving from the Mountain West to the Pac 12. West Virginia has had one top 25 finish since moving from the Big East to the Big 12. Gary Patterson's had three top 10 finishes since TCU moved from the Mountain West to the Big 12 which is an incredible feat. TCU is an inferior program to Texas Tech historically but Patterson accomplished more in six years (win a Big 12 title, three top 10 finishes) than Mike Leach did in 10 years at Texas Tech.

Holgy’s 2010 OK st offense GOAT

That was a horrible loss no doubt, but since then he’s won 34 games in a little under 4 seasons
Posted on 11/4/18 at 9:59 am to Mr Personality
I’m not saying he hasn’t won games
But he just doubles down on his mystifying loses
I mean the Minnesota game to me is worse than any loss. Great coaches don’t lose that game.

Will you just go ahead and tell us what Mike Leach did to personally grieve you?

I don’t know him. I’m sorry I don’t think he’s great. He got at Tech they made schedule easy and stopped playing road games. He has a fun offense. But he loses games that he shouldn’t.
He lost to SC this year yet they’re better than SC
If he lost games at LSU the way he does at WAZZU you guys would want his scalp. I get it he’s quotable but the loses are just head scratchers

this thread acknowledges he doesn't recruit well
USC is MUCH more talented that WSU. talent can overcome coaching in CFB (it does often, actually)
he probably couldn't make it at LSU b/c he'd have to recruit at an insane level that he's not capable of. IF HE COULD RECRUIT THAT TALENT, yes, he would get crucified. this thread isn't about talent, though
