Can you teach a child morality without religion?

I say yes. Morality provides a distinction between right and wrong, and that line doesn’t muddy just because someone is an atheist. You don’t need a higher power to know that treating other people the way you would like to be treated is a fairly decent way to go about your daily life.

Just because someone does not believe in the afterlife does not mean that they will not have morals, and just because someone does believe in the afterlife does not mean that they will have morals
and you are basically trying to start a nature vs nurture argument

Yes, this is an easy answer.

You have to replace religion with something. Progressives replace it with government.

Basic morals predate religion

What's the basis for your morality? Personal moral compass?

Has nothing to do with going to Heaven. Sadly, so many are misinformed into thinking this.

Eh, in some cases. There are plenty of religious progressives out there.
Religion was probably invented by man as a way to answer questions that frighten us. Some people need that.

So true. It doesnt matter what you have done. Just invite jesus in to your heart as your personal lord and savior and salvation is yours.

A better question is that without religion can you forgive yourself? In other words, you better live a moral life if you aren’t religious, because you only get one shot at sleeping at night...if you give a frick who you are.
I think you just tell your child it’s easier to believe in religion.

We don't really know this, as it's essentially unknowable.

A wise man named Steve Harvey asks, "What is your moral barometer?"

some animals have their own morality
so unless you are just arguing that we don't know if the Bible (or any religion) is true or not, I'd say its a fairly safe bed that morality predates religion

What's immoral to you is moral to someone else. So what's your basis for morality?
You can teach them your moral values, but not a universal set of morality.

Sure it's prehistory, but saying it's unknowable is like saying we can't know if man's control of fire or cooked food came first. It's common sense.
