Only if you're running actual axles that length. You start adding on wheel spacers and shite starts falling off on the trail.

I believe Garret Graves said it best.

Unsprung weight is the enemy of handling and suspension parts, and the further from the center, the worse.

Obviously this guy isn't looking to race anyone and has plenty of dough for suspension repairs.

Hopefully can be blamed on youth. Then again, like I tell my daughter...

Know the difference between the idiots in your classes and the idiots driving down the road?

Nothing but age.

Not my style but I do know some of the history. It started in Hawaii during 80s and 90s for beach cruising. The sand gets thrown mostly outside of the truck instead of in every crevice under the truck. The wide tire wide stance helps in sand. They dont need tall sidewalls as there isnt much rock crawling, only riding lava fields. The tow mirrors are obviously to get view of the tire path out that wide, especially backing up. It also evolved with SoCal mini trucks and lowriders of the time of lots of chrome including suspension.

depends on the day and the cop. I’m glad it’s not enforced in our area. I’d be up shite creek.

It's a good indicator of who should be taken out when the dollar collapses or the EMP hits.

I think the poorly written law allows for an out.

RS 32:364 — Fenders and mudguards
“...The width of such fenders, covers, or other devices shall be at least the width of the tires of the motor vehicle.”

The wording is worthless as it only states that the fenders “shall be at least the width of the tires”. With wheel spacers, the tires can protrude beyond the fenders even though the fenders are wider than the actual tire, so technically speaking, the requirement is met.

Well cops are writing tickets left and right to the guys with wide tires without fender flares in the Pineville/Alexandria area. I was forced to get flares.

They’ll sling just about anything you run over. My cousin had tires on his ‘87 yota truck like this and ran over a moccasin one day. Jackass decided to back up and then peel out on it and subsequently slung snake guts all over his truck and rearview mirror. Tires set like this also work well to sling gravel into their own rearviews and smash ‘em.

Well you should have fought it. The guy who posted above you is correct. The law is poorly written. Probably wouldn't stand up in court. If your fenders are as wide as your tires, then according to the way the law is written, you should be good to go. The law says nothing about the positioning of those tires in relation to the fenders

My truck nuts hang low. The offset wheels give more space for them to swing when I turn without rubbing on the tire

I had a motorcycle cop pull me over on Jones Creek road at Jones Creek in Baton Rouge for tires too wide. I had to pull into the dip Stix oil change place

Why not post the entire thing? It makes it pretty clear.
quote:

A. Every motor vehicle, other than a motorcycle or motor-driven cycle, when operated upon a highway of this state, shall be equipped with fenders, covers, or such devices, including flaps or splash aprons, or fender flares to effectively minimize the spray or splash of water or mud or loose material on the highways to the rear of the vehicle unless the body of the vehicle or attachments thereto afford such protection. The width of such fenders, covers, or other devices shall be at least the width of the tires of the motor vehicle.

My jeep violates both parts of the law/regulation. I have no fenders and the tires stick out past the body. It’s inspected and insured but I rarely drive it on the road anymore. It spends most of its time off-road or on a trailer. I’ve had buddies pulled over by troopers and issues warnings. I tickets yet here in SWLA.
