Has there been any explanation offered as to why this vessel was underway with the crane boom in the up position?

It'll take longer than January. Have a family working on it and it's no secret. Don't bet on crossing for Jan 1 or you'll have a let down.

Guess your friends don't know anything about maritime law. Tell them that before they go spending a bunch of time and money, to read up on Robins Dry Dock.

I haven't heard anything. I know a guy that saw it happen but he doesn't know what happened regarding that stuff.

WAFB reported on the 5:00 news this evening that the barge company has filed a motion to limit their liability to 1.5 million

knowing construction and bridges, working around the clock, this should not take until January to fix.

Don't know too much about bridges but repairing the bottom chord on a loaded truss seems like a shoring nightmare. No doubt the actual fix will go quickly but everything else involved looks like a massive ordeal.

Anyone seen any recent pics of the work?

1.5M is chump change and won't cover the repairs.

You know enough because you are spot on.

The lower chords on these trusses are critical and have no backup structural members.

Look up "fracture critical bridge".

Might need a name. I have to go "the other way" to the camp now. Can't imagine how many minutes in the boat I'll lose over the next few months.

Imagine the impact on the entire region had this happen to the Horace Wilkerson bridge

The intracoastal is so far behind on maintenance that it could be catastrophic if one side of it has to shut down for a period of time. The Sunshine Bridge is just a preview of our dollars hard at work and a growing problem that continues to be ignored with studies.

I wish that crane would have hit the Washington street exit instead.

^^^THIS^^^

They can’t shut that exit down soon enough for me.

They had this dumbass about a week ago when I coming through there. He got on at Florida st. and nobody would let him merge over so I let him in and then we get to the Washington st. exit and stops because nobody would let him merge to get to the exit. Why can’t people in baton rouge use the surface streets.

Ok back to the bridge talk.

It’s was a Gottwald crane and the Capt decided to pass under the side route where the bridge is lower instead of directly under the bridge where he had more clearance.

Google Gottwald Cranes and you’ll understand
