There’s definitely more creative names they could’ve gave North La but nobody gives a shite so they just left it as is.

Y'all do realize that Cajuns are just a particular type of redneck?

How’s the deer hunting in that part of the state? I think that’s why north La is called that. One could easily argue that the entire state is a sportsman’s paradise though.

I agree that deer hunting is probably a lot better. And freshwater fishing is what you have in North LA. So the trade off is better or more diverse fishing in South LA vs better or more diverse hunting in North LA. I actually spent time in Ruston and later in Texarkana (Arkansas side). I fished a lot of north LA from both cities. And, I had a great time bass fishing. I wasn't much of a hunter outside of squirrel, rabbit and coon. You can do most of that anywhere. I do know in some of the coastal areas of Louisiana there is pretty decent deer hunting like Pecan Island, Pass-A-Loutre WMA, Salvador WMA, Pearl River WMA, and others. Not as plentiful and maybe smaller overall since they aren't getting fat on acorns or soybean, there are plenty of grasses to eat and lots of areas that are hard to access. So, not as much pressure on the populations. I guess my goal of my post was to remind people that South Louisiana is loaded with opportunities for hunting, trapping and fishing.

Nobody was arguing that it wasn’t.

Let’s fix this map for good.

Sportsman’s Paradise should be split into two regions. NW and north central should be called Hill Parishes. NE should be called Delta Parishes. Including Concordia and Catahoula parishes.

The crossroads should extend to include Calcasieu and Allen.

Plantation country and the upper part of greater New Orleans should be called the Florida parishes. With the lower part of plantation country included in Cajun country.

That is a better reflection of the regions IMO.

I know nothing about the state in which I grew up and lived 25 years.

Baton Rouge is not Cajun.

Baton Rouge is in the middle of the trashy region bounded on the west by Lafayette and on the east by Slidell.

BR is not Cajun or redneck. It's a college town with no real culture/identity besides LSU. (Coming from a lifelong BR resident )

LAF = Cajun

I agree that LSU, and the capital being there both bring people in from all over. They both always have, and always will.

In the late 70's most of the guys I knew from Baton Rouge were no different than the guys in Monroe, or Shreveport. I had one frat brother who attended Robert E. Lee High School in Baton Rouge. Hung out with him a good bit when we were freshmen. Lots of kids there drove trucks, just like Monroe. Going to a football game there was no different. From my personal interactions with people from Baton Rouge, my impression was that living there was no different than living in North Louisiana. Back then, it felt like a "larger" small town to me. I was never treated any differently than I had been growing up in towns like Vidalia, Monroe, or Ruston. People were all friendly. Most of the people I knew grew up going to church back then too.

I couldn't say Lafayette or NOLA were the same. People around Lafayette were still speaking a little French back then. Sometimes you couldn't understand what a ref said in a football or baseball game. The people were nice, but their lives were different from mine. NOLA people were never as trusting as people I knew in the rest of the state. Lots of them seemed no different than Northerners that I had met.

I also wonder how many of the Baton Rouge people that I encountered in the 70's live in Livingston, or Ascension Parish now? Maybe BR was more redneck back then than it is now.

Used to be mostly redneck but that’s changing.

Baton Rouge is sort of Louisiana’s melting pot.

Have you ever actually been to those areas?

The two parishes have nothing in common except for both being in the Baton Rouge area. WBR and PC are river Cajun as frick. Look at the names in phone book, the backgrounds, the food, and the religion. Those areas are not Anglo-southern rednecks like Livingston.

More Cajun names in Houston than there are in Baton Rouge. And Houston isn't Cajun.
