The reason he electoral college is FANTASTIC...

New York and California don't automatically get to decide how the rest of the Nation lives.

Now Loserman, don't you know it's unfair to not let a handful of cities dictate national policy?

Cities that let illegals aliens vote in local elections should not be defining government policy for the rest of us.

The EC helps prevent either major political party from becoming too extreme. Doh!

I am happy withthe electoral college because of the outcomes it has provided in recent elections, but I am honest enough to say if my guy had won the popular vote and lost the EC, I would be screaming bloody murder, just like I did when Bill Clinton won with less than 50 % of the popular vote.

Because there are so many people crammed into such a small area, large urban areas generally are more dependent on government to keep order, facilitate transportation, pick up garbage, and to codify everything.

That's fine and that's why we have state and local governments.

But that's not what everyone has; nor what everyone wants.

Each state originally was to compete with the other states. It was thoughts folks would migrate to where they wanted to live.

But protections were built in to our system such that one state or one group of states could not easily dominate other smaller states. If we changed that now it would radically change our very fiber of who we are.
That would destroy the union as we know it.

It kept Al Gore and Hillary Clinton from becoming president.

That just showed us what an unestablished third party candidate can do to hurt a party. Perot gave us eight years of the Clinton Kingdom.

You mean...a state that had a major city replace a light post because it it had so much urine damage that it fell on to a car? ( one of many light post that have to be replaced due to human and dog urine) ...that city and supportive state should not dictate the national policy? Sounds like they know what they are doing...

I was a victim of the great compromise”

Amen, if they had, we would already be socialist, and there would be no country left to fight evil. We would be at constant war.

It was more a question of free states vs slave states than large states dominating small states.

It’s a result of the Great Compromise, which more or less cornered slave states into facing the humanity of their slaves. Its role in abolition is underrated in its brilliance.
