New Doctor Who may need getting used to

Watching episode 1. Not sure she has the role mastered yet. Looks like the women are heroic, men are wimps. She has potential, but will take time to see if she makes the character her own. I felt this way about every new Doctor. Some got it, some didn’t.

I can honestly say I have zero interest in this.

I like her, but the writing was pretty flat. This episode did nothing for me. Just a much slower start than we're used to.

I watched the episode and thought it was good (not great).
She seems ok, but it normally takes a few eps for them to hit their stride and really make "The Dr" their own.
My main concern is the writing is going to give us "Dr Who stories" or "forced diversity" stories the casting so far looks to hit most stereotypes.

I disliked Capaldi at first, but over time I really enjoyed his Doctor.
I thought Whittaker was ok although she seemed to be doing a mashup impersonation of Tennant and Smith.
While it was time for him to go, I will miss Moffet's writing. This version is decidedly slower paced and at times the dialogue is clunky in a Scooby Doo sort of way.

I thought it was OK. Not a bad first episode. She was honestly better than I thought she’d be.

Just watched it. I've watched a shitload of Brit tv over the decades so when I say they need to dial the accents down a bit, that's saying something.
The story wasn't bad, especially for a new crew. The outfit she chose reminds me of Robin Williams from Mork & Mindy.
There's potential, I'll give it a few episodes before I decide whether to take it off the DVR.

It's the BBC mission with this show now, and it shows. I liked the acting tonight but the "women strong, men weak" thing will likely be a staple. The writing better improve in a hurry because tonight was incredibly stale.

Anyone else think The Doctor will spend the whole season looking for the TARDIS?

She's using her natural accent. And that's fine, but it really does seem like they play up the accents on this show compared to other British shows. I don't think it's an accident, because they've always made jokes about regions. And I think it's part of the diversity agenda to show diversity in UK regions and make sure every region knows they're represented.
But it's like if we were watching Breaking Bad and they had someone with a thick Cajun accent talking to someone from the Appalachians. In real life, most of us drop our accents when talking to people we don't know. It would be a tiny bit hard to follow along at times.

The new doctors always take a bit of getting used to. It took me awhile to start liking Capaldi.

About an hour or so after I posted this an interview with the new Doctor on Colbert's show popped up on my FB feed. In it she talked about how even the people behind the scenes asked if she could tone it down (to which she said no in a fashion that led me to think she's never learned that particular skill).
Oh well, if the show is good enough I'll struggle through it ;)

It would be nice if they brought the accents back a bit. I also noticed they used the word "love" a lot. They've always referenced the different regions in the show.

That crap was worse than Peter Capaldi. And that's hard to be. But it somehow was.

I actually really enjoyed it. As much as I loved Moffett, I'm ready for some more simple stories. Where each episode can stand on it's own and doesnt need to be some long complicated story arch. I though Whitaker did well. I'll adjust and have a feeling I'll like her. It took me an entire season to warm up to Capaldi
