I feel like there’s a real chance Stephen Breyer calls it quits after RGB dies

The court will then be 6-3. His opinions won’t really matter. He’ll be 82, 83. Trump will make dat arse quit.

Hello 7-2 SCOTUS.

These past few weeks were a picnic compared to the meltdown that will happen when RBG leaves the bench.

This was the warmup.

Thomas has already said he would retire before Trump’s second term is up so he is assured a conservative replaces his seat. This is something RBG should have done during the last administration, but they were certain the smear campaign against Trump was a done deal.

I can see this process occurring again at least twice before 2024.

I wouldn't blame him. It would get super old writing so many minority opinions.

I think that’s right. Handymaids comes after indiscriminate rape and before reinstitution of slavery. I’ve got the memo somewhere

And we will have a 50 year old in to replace Thomas too. The Progs can go all in as hard as they want but all their projects will be crushed.

That was a classic case of liberal smugness. Dumbass should have called it quits in year 5 or 6 of Obama when they had the Senate. She’s barely functioning as a human. Instead she was sure Hillary would win and wanted to hold onto her power longer.

Even now, SCOTUS isn't nearly as bitterly partisan as the average person believes it to be:

That graphic represents the most recent completed term.

With Thomas, RBG and potentially Breyer (and outside chance of Sotomayor, based on health) - a 2-term Trump almost certainly appoints 4 justices with a reasonable chance of 5 and an outside, but appreciable chance of 6.

No, Breyer is going to take the long view and try to hold out until another Democrat President and Senate comes along.

Trump is starting to load up the lower courts also. Obama ignored this because he thought Hillary had it in the bag. LOTS of open seats and Trump is working on it. If we add some seats to the Senate in the mid terms it’s full speed ahead!
