John Miremont said the motivation for donating $62,000 to the McKinley High School athletic program can be summed easily.

“I wanted those children to know somebody cares about them … plain and simple,” Miremont, a local businessman, said.

A portion of the donation, about $20,000, will be used to help pay off the fine that came as a result of LHSAA sanctions, McKinley Principal Esrom Pitre said. The remaining $42,000 is being used to pay for pre-game meals for the football team and for football equipment.

“There was a need and we are glad to help,” said Miremont, a 1976 Catholic High graduate

It took a private school grad to rescue these kids from their own administration

First: Lotta respect to the people making the donation. The kids don't deserve what they were subject to.

Second: Absolutely no respect to the McKinley administration. Their actions are a reflection of their lack of respect for rules and outright laziness.

Ole baw's first wife sued him for violating their child support agreement. I'm sure she was tickled to hear this news.

McKinley got a five figure fine and a 1 or 2 year postseason ban from the LHSAA for a failure to verify the eligibility of athletes.

The size of the fine was based on a certain amount per student whose eligibility couldn’t be verified.
