Reading a book by NDT,Neil Degrasse Tyson, and this is the opening sentence in the first chapter
quote:

In the beginning, nearly fourteen billion years ago, all the space and all the matter and all the energy of the known universe was contained in a volume less than onetrillionth the size of the period that ends this sentence
My mind got a 404 error

This is written with a lot of conviction for something that happened 14 billion years ago.

Yes.
But what was that period in?

That’s what I demand to know.

That would have to be a really big period.

...unless somebody comes up with a theory we like better tomorrow, and then nevermind.

You realize that's just a theory right?

My theory is that space has always existed. That's something that is hard to understand, but over time, there became areas in which the environment allowed dust and gases to form stars and planets. And then planets like Earth, were in a perfect location in which the environment allowed for other things to grow from it.. Including living organisms,

My theory is just as good as any.

Isn’t science the observation of something happening? Has NDT seen this?
