Phoenix/Scottsdale Course Recs

Troon north and the boulders are my two favorite out here so far

Do you remember which one was the better one by chance? We are wanting to play Dinosaur Mountain because we heard the views are awesome.

We-Ko-Pa Both courses.

Played wekopa, Quintero, camelback this past Labor Day weekend. All 3 where in great shape.

Played wekopa, troon north and eagle mountain last year. Can’t go wrong with any of these courses

I played the Phoenician when I was out there a few years ago.

Really well kept, some cool views (best one is right when you turn in there), and a good mix of desert holes with hard sand rough and normal holes with grass and lakes

Don’t play tpc.
Both WeKoPa courses are fantastic and no houses.
Eagle mtn is in the same area and is a more friendly course off the tee. Good views.
Can’t go wrong with Either Troon course or Boulders.

If willing to drive 1.5 hr then Wickenberg Ranch is phenomenal and Seven Canyons in Sedona will be unforgettable.

A bit lower tier, but still fun desert courses to check out would be Rancho Manana, Legend Trail or the Desert Ridge courses (Palmer better than Faldo).

Quintero has some pretty awesome holes, but last I played it the greens were really jacked up with a fungus or marks that made them bumpy and killed the round.

As stated before-make sure you check when they overseed. You’ll love the golf here.

You seem pretty knowledgeable on courses in the area, and I'll be in Scottsdale in April. Have any recs for courses that are a little more forgiving off the tee?

I think there’s always a balance in what type of golf you want to play. Obviously, the top end courses are mostly going to be more difficult, but are fair if you hit good shots.

One thing that is generally nice about these courses is that even if you are off the fairway the rough is typically not very penalizing as far as needing to club up etc bc the grass doesn’t grow as well. So you typically will have dirt/hardpan or rock type lies when out of play that you can occasionally play without a penalty.

Off the tee, Eagle mountain is a really fun course with elevations, good rolls and allows for pretty good margin of error. Talking Stick has two courses that are pretty wide open off the tee as well. As mentioned, Kierland is not overly difficult and is a resort course that’s always in good shape, but not as scenic IMO as the other two. A really fun track is Verde River and it’s not too bad off the tee.

Another two courses that are enjoyable but not as nice as the others (but likely cheaper also) are on the south side of town Legacy and Raven. Not bad off the tee at all, but the others courses will have better mtn views and memorable holes. Hope that helps.

My pops and I were out there last year for the Final Four and played Las Colinas, McCormick Ranch Pine Course, and The Foothills Golf Club.

3 totally different courses in that area. Las Colinas was a pretty easy track that winds through a neighborhood. It was in pretty good shape overall, but was in the worse shape of these 3 tracks. McCormick Ranch is in Scottsdale and was really really nice when we played it. Pretty tough course too. Played the Foothills Golf Club on our last day before we flew out. Was more of a desert course than the other 2 in that there wasn't much rough, was either a house or dirt/cactus.
