the advent of fantasy football

Is helping to ruin fandom in football. Probably hurting revenue as well, until the leagues figure out how to properly monetize it.

I loved it. It was the most sadistic, death by a 1000 cuts way for the game to end. They just had watch Drew methodically work it down to the 1 inch line. Slowly eating the clock. They even had to relive the losing TD twice. It was a great OT.

Doesn't the other team get a full possession regardless of how much time is on the clock if the first possession isn't a touchdown?

Lol no. They get the ball if the team with possession first doesn’t score a touchdown but if time runs out time runs out. So for instance if we ran the clock down to 10 seconds and Kicked a field goal, the falcons would have had 10 seconds to do something.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with this overtime rule. The game is made up of three phases: offense, defense, and special teams. If you have to kick off and want to win, it's simple. STOP THEM ON DEFENSE AND GET THE MOTHERLOVIN' BALL BACK. In the meantime, quit whining. I have another novel idea. How about you do something in regulation to win the game so it doesn't have to get to overtime?????
Oh, my God. Proceed to your wife/girlfriend's pure IMMEDIATELY and extract your nuts from her purse. Reattach them.

They made a big deal about how they reduced the overtime period to 10 minutes. Our drive ate up 7 minutes of that time. Even if they had kept us out of the end zone it is very likely that we would have kicked a field goal with under 2 minutes left. That would have put tremendous pressure on them to just get into field goal range to secure the tie. I love that we got the ball first but i would have been pissed if the situation was reversed. I don't think it is a coincidence that of the three overtime games so far this season, ours is the only one to not result in a tie.

agreed, its not uncommon to use 7 minutes to drive the length of the field so the other team no longer has a fair and equal chance to drive the length of the field to score

and i will go you one better, had we kicked and lets say they managed to get a FG in the 2 minutes that were left, they would be literally no time for us to have another possession to get the win

if they arent really concerned with a fair way to win the game in OT, then just end it right there at the end of regulation as a tie and go home

I just want to see each team guaranteed to get the ball once. We won this game the second we called the coin flip correctly - thats not really fair - regardless of opponent.

Each team gets the ball once. If tied after both team have a drive, next score wins. No ties.

No need for overtime in the regular season. Overtime in the playoffs should be another quarter.

You're 25, and you don't realize how lucrative fantasy football is to the NFL?

So fantasy football is more important than the real deal.

I don't get why the clock can run out.

Keep the scoring rules the same or go back to sudden death, I don't care.

But time simply shouldn't be allowed to expire with the game tied.

Eh. My solution was very simple: No FGs in OT. First team to score a TD wins.

frick the each team gets a possession bs. If you can't stop a team from scoring a TD you deserve to lose. Period.

I'm guessing (?) that there have been about 1-2 ties per year over the past 25 years.

Not even close. It's probably 1 tie every 2-3 years if I had to guess. They had plenty of years with no ties and rarely a year with two.

NFL is trying to reduce the total game time. Earlier post. Said college rules coming; would not be surprised, but from the 40 or 50. The OT coin toss decided yesterday’s game cause neither D could stop the O. Better believe our DC took a deep breath when it was tails

I'll do you one even better: First to 6 points. No clock.
