When I was outside with my dogs this morning, I noticed there was a hole in my fence. It happened overnight, but I can't think of what could have done this. Any thoughts?

A dog could do that.

We had a german shepherd that absolutely destroyed a chain link pen.

hard to determine without scale, but that didn't happen last night, the ground under the fence shows no sign of being recently disturbed, note a lack of hair on fence or ground, the dead grass that collected after a rain and the fresh sprout directly under the fence...

It was probably a really big crawdad or a big blue crab, depending on how far inland. You gonna need a bigger pot on to boil.

Graboid, Grab your big calibers and find a rocky outcrop, the higher the better.

I'd say your neighbors's riding mower snagged and you are now just noticing.

My first guess would be your own dog(s), but don't know their size/breed.

My second guess would be another dog trying to get to your dog(s) to either breed or fight.
