Interesting story.
I found out something that my grandparents never told me when they were alive, and my father only told me recently. My grandparents had the Klan burn a cross in their yard once. This was back in the 60’s when desegregation was going on. My grandfather was principal of the elementary school, so he was one of the targets of the Klan’s anger over the issue. My grandfather didn’t care for blacks any more than the next southern white, but he wasn’t going to defy a federal order either. Strange times.
