The Klan burned a cross in my grandfather's front yard for writing an editorial in the local paper telling them to frick off. He said he and his family watched it burn out near the street, and when the fire started getting out of control the KKK then called the fire department. The next day my aunt set up a lemonade stand next to it and put up a sign that read "Come see an authentic KKK cross. Lemonade 10 cents!"

There's a lot more to that story, with some great moments of comedy and drama.

Was the cross burning effective? Did he clean up his act?

Look man, I'm trying to understand. I just dont see how this relates to oppression.

How does your white grandfather who chose to drink and act an arse to the point the Klan had to straighten him out relate to racial oppression (real/fictious).

Because saying that shitty hands are dealt to everyone sometimes is a different story than the one in your OP.

Also, wouldn't your grandfather drinking be self inflicted? I'm still not seeing the oppression angle.

Not really. The struggle continued and eventually the FBI got involved. That lead to the KKK "voluntarily" leaving the parish.

The klan used to be an accountability group. Wife beaters, abusers, lowlifes, ect were set in line.

Funny story about the klan....

When I was young I got into trouble for knocking down mailboxes. It made the news and the Clarion Ledger. Not proud of it but it was way blown out of proportion. Anyway I received an anonymous letter in the mail from the Klan about how terrible of a person I was. By the way I’m white??? Haha

They're all making fun of him using the story of his grandfather as some sort of teaching moment for modern minorities.

Bro, don't you know that Klanfolk burning cross for fellow Klanfolk is the real oppression. The Trump voter just told you that fact.

People think that the Klan was just racist...not true. They hated everyone.

My grandmother has told me stories about the threats her and my grandfather would get because she converted to Catholicism when she met him.

Dude if you would’ve waited til the end of the season instead acting like an 11-year old girl with sand in her vagina I would’ve Paypaled it to you. But since you just couldn’t wait past the 2nd weekend of the season and resorted to name-calling, then if you want to collect then yes you’ll have to do it face-to-face so I can see just how tough you really are.

Virgil Caine is the name, and I served on the Danville train
'Til Stoneman's cavalry came and tore up the tracks again
In the winter of '65, we were hungry, just barely alive
By May the tenth, Richmond had fell, it's a time I remember, oh so well
The night they drove old Dixie down, and the bells were ringing
The night they drove old Dixie down, and the people were singin' they went

If he wins the bet before the season is over he shouldn't have to wait.
