Apple Can Delete Purchased Movies From Your Library

When you buy a movie on iTunes, it’s yours forever, until such a time as when Apple maybe loses the rights to distribute it, and then it will disappear from your library without a trace. This is what happened to Anders G. da Silva, who goes by @drandersgs on Twitter, and who tweeted about losing three movies bought on the iTunes Store.
When da Silva wrote to Apple to complain about the missing movies, Apple wrote back to him that “the content provider has removed these movies from the Canadian Store. Hence, these movies are not available in the Canada iTunes Store at this time.” For his trouble in notifying Apple that it had disappeared three of his ostensible belongings for incredibly dubious legal reasons, Apple offered da Silva not even a refund, but two credits for renting a movie on the iTunes Store “priced up to $5.99 USD.” After he argued that he was not in the market for rentals and would just like the movies he purchased, please, Apple tried to appease him with two more rental credits.
To be completely fair, the iTunes Store’s Terms of Service, which surely no one has ever read, do address this kind of incident. Years ago, Apple began offering “cloud storage” for content purchased from its store, meaning that if a user deleted the content from any device, it could be re-downloaded to that same device, or a different authorized device, later

Why buy a movie on iTunes when you can just use Vudu and such? It would take forever to load

Sometimes technology just doesn't beat an old fashioned hard copy of a favorite movie or album.
Fact.
Fact.

The simple fact is you don't really "own" anything digital. You own the right to have a service provided if the service provider wishes.
The demo PT is still the greatest example of this.
To recap for the non-gamers, a horrifying demo (for a horror game) was released on the PlayStation store. Miany people bought it and downloaded it and tried to beat it. This demo was massively popular. But the game director and the studio had a massive falling out and the demo was pulled from the stores. So now, only people who downloaded the game to their PS4 have it and no one can download it anymore. The PS4/s that have it shot up in value. People are worried because this piece of art ca. Just be can just be vanished at whim by a compa y having a temper tantrum.

I listen to music on the rig at least 20 hours a week. Every night, without fail, there is an album I want to listen to that is either not available on TIDAL (due to the artists agreements or lack therof), or there is an album that during it’s remaster, has been altered from the original, and the original album is not available.
This is why I keep a massive library of CDs and vinyl.
Now get off my lawn.

My dad has copies of like 20k songs in 3 or 4 locations. Pretty impressive if you ask me.

Apple is not the only one. Also if you have purchased a game via Steam you need to realize that games can be removed from your library too. According to Steam's fine print you only purchased a license to play the game. Not the game itself.

I keep hard copies of everything. I know it takes up a ton of space, but it’s worth it.

Why I buy dvd's. I own them and can see them whenever I want to see them.

Microsoft does this with games on xbox. You purchase the license to play the game, but if you violate their terms of service and get banned from Xbox live where you purchased digital games, they will revoke the licenses to all the games you purchased. You get no money back and never get the games back.

The last movie I watched was “The Green Mile “ in 1999 at the movie theatre. Go buy a book, you can put in on the shelf when you are finished reading it. You will learn a lot more from the book vs. the movie.
