I agree. If you want maximum likes on social media, you need to scare your wife.

Kids at a certain age ENJOY being scared.
There's a difference between being scared and being traumatized. Some of these kids sob uncontrollably at these "pranks". The only person enjoying it is the parent.

I don't care what anyone says, I think the invisible prank is hilarious when it works. I don't think the kids are getting hurt by that. Now, putting on a mask and chasing around a very young child is too much.

It is because kids are having kids. They (the parents) are worried about kid things like social media instead of the long-term health and safety of their children.

Sure, one prank where a child is pushed to the point of really being afraid probably won't ruin them... But being raised by parents that purposely put their children in this position publicly for their own gain will very likely have negative effects.

I think it’s more about experiencing fear in controlled settings.
I mean, a kids campout where you are telling the scary story around the fire and then at the climax someone jumps out the bushes...that’s pretty funny. It gives them a good cheap jump scare, it’s fun.
I have to make up new scary stories all the time because my little ones have heard all the ones I know and say that they aren’t scary enough.
Although I did do a good jump scare story the other day and my little girl got all mad and said it was too scary. That was pretty funny.
Fear is just a fascinating subject to me. Honestly I think my kids scare me more than I scare them sometimes. I just want to keep them safe. And sometimes they need to be scared to do something that is gonna hurt them.

These video prank parents are seeking to temporarily undermine the controlled setting.

While being scared can be enjoyable, kids are smart enough to know the difference between "safe" scared, and "holy shite I'm going to die" scared.
Of course. Safe scared is fun. If things are really scary, if there is really danger, they need to know to just keep quiet and do exactly as I say. I’d never let any real harm come to them

Scaring the shite out of kids every now and then is one of the best parts of being a parent. I’m glad my kids aren’t snowflakes

So yes, parents that intentionally scare their children are some of the worst pieces of shite on the planet.

Absolutely. Without scares, a kid never learns how to manage fight or flight instincts and external stress.

My grandmother convinced me she flushed my brother down the toilet.
I turned out ok.
The “invisible” challenge is hilarious and the one with the girl and her family was outstanding. I’d much rather see that than most of the other social media/political nonsense.

Scaring kids is an American tradition. Keeps 'em from turning queer.

Kids are so trusting especially with their parents, and I learned from my dad at a young age that one of the great joys in life is using that trust to scare and play tricks on your kids
Eta, this thread reminds me of this:
One thing kids like is to be tricked. For instance, I was going to take my nephew to Disneyland, but instead I drove him to an old burned-out warehouse. 'Oh no,' I said, 'Disneyland burned down.' "He cried and cried, but I think that deep down he thought it was a pretty good joke. 'I started to drive over to the real Disneyland, but it was getting pretty late.

Is this entertainment? Why is this happening?
AbsofrickingLutely. It's for shitting on me in Target in 2006 when he was an infant.
It's for the time she bit a classmate and got sent home and I had to leave work to drive 80 miles to get her from the school office.
It's for 3 fricking sets of braces.
It's for ruining their mamas' poons and sex drive.
It's for being ungrateful frickbuckets when we spend a shite load of $ and time planning/driving to the mountains and they want to sit in the car and play with their phones instead of get out at Clingmans Dome.
frick them little frickers. It's our turn to have fun.
