Junior year of high school. Principal came over the intercom to tell everyone what had happened and asked the teachers to stop their lessons for the day and turn on the news.

Sitting on a frac site outside longview, tx. Cell phones started going off like crazy. Company man was giving us details as he talked to his wife while we went downhole!

Re-watching the footage is unbelievable to this day.

was pretty wild, I had 14 people on my crew and there were probably around 200 other company crewmembers at the hotel, a friend(fellow pilot) called me right after the first one hit to find out where I was, I was on the 24th floor of a high rise on the east coast, facing east, he recommends trying to get a van, a bus, or several cars to try and get everyone out and headed home, about that time a flight of four Vipers flying CAPs came screaming right over the top of the hotel, from the east, told him I was OK for the time being but would get on it, as we had no idea what was going on, what were subsequent targets, how many, etc., was very surreal

I was at work.

Everyone- co-workers and strangers alike- were glued to the TV in disbelief. As the day went on, the disbelief turned to anger. They did this to US??
That evening, the feeling of sadness for those lost really hit. It was a terrible day for America.
It was also a terrible reminder that we live in a dangerous world where nothing is certain.

I was finishing up some paperwork on a case I had just finished when the news hit. Of course everyone on base was somewhere watching TV within moments of hearing. By 11 AM local I already had orders, get my arse to DC ASAP.

On this morning 17 years ago, I was working on a crew that was doing some renovations inside the Superdome. We didn't know any of this was happening until a security guy came up and told us that we all had to leave, the Superdome was being evacuated immediately. He gave us a brief rundown of what happened. As I was walking to my car in the contractor parking under i-10, 2 fighter jets screamed by overhead flying real low. That's when I realized that this was the real deal.

I was standing next to my CO watching the TV when the 2nd plane hit. He said "If you don't have to be on base right now I suggest you leave while you can."

I was standing in the line a the local post office when someone said something about the one of the Towers bein hit by a plane. I finished my business and got home in time to watch the news unfold.

I knew there were going to be lots of casualties, but when that first tower fell, I knew for sure not only were a lot of the office workers dying, but also hundreds of emergency workers responding to the towers were also dying, especially the NYFD members on the scene.

Sad day indeed.

Church Not sure why I’m being downvoted. I went to catholic elementary school and we had mass that day. We went back to class after and took turns watching on an old tube tv.

Who the hell downvotes this? Seriously.

Working at a local private school as a librarian. We left the TV on after monitoring the morning announcements show, and when the first one hit my Nigerian co-worker stated flatly, it is the Muslims. A faculty member who had first period off and was one of the diversity club moderators tells him "don't be so hasty Mr. E...."

Once the second one hit, she pretty much shut up.

Had a faculty member who lost her son-in-law in the WTC.

Bewildering, unbelievable. I still watch the specials ever year on History Channel, and it's all so fresh each year because the technology had reached a point where it's all so poignant and clear.

I had to report back the next day. We were stuck in drydock so we ended up going from 3 armed watch standers to about 10. I spent the next 2 months guarding the elevator to the basin with a 9mm... 6 hrs on, 12 off.

I already hated Muslims... but having to stand all those watches pushed me over the edge.

I was at work, taking care of pts in MICU... Walking from the ABG lab to the unit, one of the RNs in inpatient dialyses calls me over in a panic mode and pointed to the tv with the report on.

Watched the second plane crash live.... It was a strange day...
