How did Deculus look at tackle?

I was so focused on how bad Traore was at RT that I didn’t watch how Deculus did at left. Those who watched more closely, how did he do?

Honestly I didn't focus on him a lot but the plays I did, he didn't look bad at all. Now maybe I just missed the bad ones

Usually when you don't hear an Oline name called that means he is playing great. The only time I remember hearing him name was a a run play where he blocked his first guy and then found a DB to block. Well the DB didn't win and Sullivan loved it

No one really noticed him all that much...which is generally a good thing for an offensive lineman.

I don't think he was an all-american Saturday night, but he probably did enough to warrant getting the start at RT. We've seen Traore 3 times in an LSU uniform (Miami, SLU, spring game). And all three times he hasn't looked good.

The only thing that scares me is some guys are better playing one side then the other for whatever reason. With that being said it sure in the hell can't get any worse

I guess the best thing I can say is that I didn't notice any serious breakdowns. There was pressure from the left, but I think it was just speed rushing that he let get around him wide. I don't know if he gave up a sack.

The line is not a good run blocking line, so I don't hang that on him - we did not block well consistently against Miami and this carried over to SELA, although the run blocking look good at times in Week 1.

The OL looks to be the weakest position group on the field right now. With poor pass blocking and, at best, inconsistent run blocking (and without an elite running back), we could have a very rough go down the SEC stretch.

He gave up no upfield rushes, so folks are going to say he should replace Traore. However, we don't know that there wasn't a major difference in the pass rushing ability of the two DEs.

Count on this: the coaches know who they are playing against and what right tackle gives them the best chance to win.

Poster above is correct. Maybe he's more comfortable at left tackle and struggled on the right side in practice. Not as simple as plugging him in there. Obviously Magee is gonna be back at right tackle at some point. Someone has to step up until then.

I thought Deculus did well. Would seem to make sense to move him to RT when Charles returns and go back to using Traore as the emergency swing tackle?

From everything I've read about Oline play, it's not a simple thing to be able to play both tackle positions. It takes a player who is extremely technically sound with both their hands and footwork.

How dare you speak such heresy?! The rantards know everything. Coaches know nothing!

You think they ran their better rush DE off the front side edge all night? I highly doubt that. If they did, it was probably because they recognized Traore as a weak link early on.

I read he was poor in the spring and he didn’t look great Saturday, but I thought he looked fine against Miami.

Granted, I was at the game and my angles weren’t great. I was also talking shite to every Miami fan around so it’s possible I missed some bad plays.

Interesting tidbit from Coach O just now with us on #SECThisMorning. LSU looking to make changes at OLine as they travel to Auburn to face on the top 10 Front 7's in the country.

Gotta believe this move puts Deculus in the starting lineup. With Magee and Ingram out I don't see any other cards they can play.

Well I can tell you this he certainly didn't garner the most attention on the OL....that was the wide open screen door we decided to field at right tackle.

Well, if Deculus can play (i.e. is more comfortable at) the LT better than the right; maybe Charles is just as good on either side and we can swap him over to RT until Magee gets back??

During the fall practice he was said to not look good at RT tackle. I didn't see much if anything wrong with his movement as left tackle which may be more comfortable to him. I would move Charles to right tackle since that is where for 2 games most of the pressure came from and where LSU looked the weakest.
