I disagree, but then again, I actually watched the game. Lsu was overwhelmingly better on special teams, and defense. Offense was strong, made good adjustments, and then controlled the clock on the way to a big win. Did I miss something?

I guess LSU didn’t whip their arse ....
I DGAF about stats , when you up by 30 on the 8th ranked team you’re facing , you double their total in the final score ...That’s a arse whipping lol

Purely a lopsided victory.

Valid criticism, because that number sucks.

It becomes less relevant when you consider that LSU subsequently picked up some 4th down conversions and 4 of those failed conversions resulted in field goals anyway.

Stats are like bikinis. What they reveal is interesting. What they HIDE is vital. LSU had a Pick 6...thus, zero yards of offense on THAT possession. LSU kneeled to end both halves...thus, NEGATIVE yards on those possessions. An interception setting up a short field. Their punter sucked balls..setting up short fields.

Or you could say we see what we want to see. For example you say zero yards on the pick 6 “possession” well how do you know there would have been yards or even points other wise? You can’t really rely on getting a pick 6, even turn overs tend to even out year to year. So of course it counts and it was awesome but the stats give a better picture of how good an offense is. Now it’s 1 game, the first game and Miami has a good defense so the offense can get better. But it needs to improve on some key metrics to win at a higher level.

Minus 2 big plays the game was really close.

This wasn't one of those games that was decided in one or two plays.

Take away a couple of LSU's biggest plays LSU still wins. Take away the interception return and give Miami another score, LSU still wins. The penalty yardage difference was only about 20 yards.

If if was a skiff we'd all go take a ride. Joel should go blow that pussy Randy Cross who said Miami would win 42-6. Hated that frick even when he played for the 49'ers.

What does it say about LSU’s potential when we dominated and were comfortably up 33-3 vs a Top10 team when we really didn’t play that well?

He says LSU didn’t play well. Ok, for the sake of discussion, I’ll concede that he’s correct. My god, imagine how good LSU could be if we did play well ... 60-3? ... 75-10?

If one team gets the ball at the 50 and drives to score, and the other team gets it on the 20, drives 55 yards and comes away with nothing, what do the stats say?

This is exactly right. Anyone who saw that game saw a team putting pressure on every throw, stopping the run, creating TOs and driving the ball down field. I could also say if LSU had scored TDs instead of FGs in that game that the score would have been much more lop sided.

STs played a huge role in the stat sheet. With good defense and STs a team doesn't need to run up the stat sheet. When you have TOs that score points you need even less to beat the brakes off of someone. So I guess this guy doesn't believe in defense and STs as part of a game? I suppose points are only scored on offense?

That's why you have 3 phases of a game and all are important. If LSU would have an offense rolling at this time, that score would have been 56-17. In other words, LSU dominated Miami. Just ask them!!!

It’s a 3 phase game.. And ST’s is key with good defenses 100% of the time. And ST’s dominated. The defense dominated... Klatt acts like they gift wrapped those TO’s. They didn’t. A deflection and a pick... Delpit forced hit Rosier as he threw when Battle got one. That is a defense imposing their will. So that’s 2 phases dominated.. So just don’t make mistakes, stay poised On offense and we win 9 out of 10 easy...

Let's say LSU even goes 8 for 16 on 3rd downs and doesn't have the second team defense in the game late that gave up garbage time touchdowns.

It's fun to play this imaginary game that Klatt likes to play towards Miami

Then that would be dominant and LSU probably wins some where between 33-47 to 3-10 or so.

1 drive doesn’t tell you anything but how often are you going to go 55-60 yards and get nothing? That’s ultimately his point. You are not going to see too many 33-17 games with the stat line you see in that game. The penalties committed by Miami are something beyond your control so not something you can count on.

On the other hand, Miami scored some garbage touchdowns on some ridiculous plays down the field.

And if LSU really wanted to score in the second half it could have been a lot worse.

This is exactly right. It's what every NFL teams tries to do. If you dominate 2/3 phases of a football game, there's a very good chance that you will win the game.

Yes the offense didn't look all that impressive but we really didn't need to. Why risk throwing the football all over the field in the first game, vs a team that is known for taking advantage of TOs, with a QB who is just getting to know his offense and an OL who hasn't meshed just yet.

I see tons of room for improvement but that's a good thing, especially when you see the talent all over and how dominant they can be with more time, practice, film study and eliminating their first game mistakes. You can clearly see that this team can be much better. It's going to be up to our coaches to help them reach that potential and the players to put in the time needed then execute in the game.

I think LSUs offense is going to thrive in next weeks game not only bc of our opponent but bc this game will give them tons of confidence that they can actually be a very good team going forward. Confidence is huge for young men with potential. I'm excited to see what they all do next week then going into the game @ Auburn!

Burrow will be even more vocal now during game week and the players will be much more willing to listen and follow after what he showed them in this game. He's going to instill a kind of calm in this offense and get them to work with him as needed to be a great offense. He obviously sees the field and knows defense's. LSUs OL better get used to blitzing defense's bc that's what we'll see all year until we start picking it up and burning them. GT

The score could've easily been 40- 10 or something like that. Stats don't always tell the whole story.

They couldn't run the ball at all. They have a boom or bust offense as it was the same last year.

He could say whatever the hell he wants but anybody who watched the game saw the domination and that LSU is way better than a #25 ranking regardless of if 11 is too high or not.

In 2011 we went 13-1 and was labeled one of the best college teams ever that year with a shitty offense. How we won sunday was exactly how that 2011 team won games. Defense and Special Teams, that's LSU football.

Not sure if he was expecting 350 passing yards and 50 points but that's not who LSU is and will never be.
