If everyone has issues with Hillar, how come nothing is out there? Is he a boogeyman+

And how much do you think that all this video, considering there are three cameras per officer, will cost to store?
Posted on 9/5/18 at 12:59 am to Pico de Gallo
Storage is pretty cheap.
Especially if you rewrite over useless data.
If you think in terms of Apple fanboy, storage is expensive.
In reality it's very cheap.

It's my understanding that it is roughly $500k base total, for the first year of storage, and then an additional $500k each year thereafter. They keep the video for what, 4 years? With the exception of violent crime like homicide, which is kept indefinitely. So if you have something kept for say, 5 years, it ends up costing around $2.5M, from what I have been told.
A lot of people see the body cameras as something positive, and yes, they can be. But look at what's happening with Seattle.

"How much is all of this costing?" KIRO 7 reporter Linzi Sheldon asked Nick Zajchowski, manager of the Seattle Police Department's body camera program. "It's going to be roughly around $800,000 or $900,000 per year for the storage and hardware," he said. Through a public records request, KIRO 7 discovered other costs. The cost Zajchowski was referencing will be $853,708 in 2018. The police department has also budgeted $48,720 for video management software, $241,936 for support staff, $223,918 for video redaction and sharing staff and $126,303 for warranties and other expenses. It adds up to the body camera program costing taxpayers in the city of Seattle $1,494,585 for 2018.

The person who approved that storage contract should be fired and investigated

Gotta love cop prices.

Hopefully it results in this dumb frick cop being fired too.
meh, if he did nothing wrong than nothing happens post investigation.
It sounds to me like the investigation has already determined the cop fired at an unarmed man and had all of the cameras on his unit turned off or disabled in some fashion.

They could just pay for it out of their protecting and serving the public with old military tanks budget.

What's the board's current collective impression on this incident? Good shoot?

The cop needs to go. He is clearly not cut out.

I need to start bidding first municipal contracts. Kenner pays a company $150,000 a year to change street lights. (Not including the bulbs that's just labor). I could buy a used bucket truck for $30k.
Cities get fricked over in bids for sure.

Pretty sure it’s just one guy being vocal - and he won’t say why.

There's one more guy on here that doesn't like him. Those are the only two people out of the tens of thousands (maybe hundreds?) that visit each day.
IIRC, the other guy doesn't like that he went for something instead of hate crimes for the people that beat up the pink shirt guy at the gas station off of Plank Rd. The main perp ended up getting 30yrs with what Hillar charged him with, and would've barely gotten anything if he was charged with a hate crime.
I've known Hillar for 15 years, and he's no doubt a good dude that works hard, and wants to do better for BR crime. He deserves to be in a much higher office, but he's just not the least bit slimy, so idk if it is best for him

I'm opposed to hate crimes on principle - I think most people on this board are. Maybe Hillar is the same way - IDK.

Tell me this, if someone is pulling a rifle on you and aiming it for your head, are you going to ask him to wait a second so you can turn your body cam on?
What's easier - camera always on and must be turned off manually when you take a piss, or camera always off an must be turned on manually when shite gets real?
Hell, even if you choose the latter, how hard is it to turn the damn thing on when you pull someone over. This officer has killed a man at a traffic stop without a camera on and has shot at another for apparently no reason.

No they don't, it's how they get rich running po-dunk towns. And big towns. They know exactly where that money is going.

Your faith may be misplaced. There are few more powerful people in a given Parish. Lots of people walking the streets who may not need to be.
ETA: To get this out of the way - as a man, Hillar is seemingly a decent person. His offices' work product leaves a lot to be desired.
That is a complete joke of a statement. Just by the nature of his job there will be, in many cases, about half the room happy and half unhappy. I can tell you from 30 years of experience that the man was more than just an attorney, he genuinely cared about his clients and I have seen nothing to show me he is anything less than a good DA. He is a great defense attorney and mentor.

Explain. I like the cameras, but your posts seem to indicate that there are no drawbacks, when in fact there are several, storage being one of the main ones.
What’s “useless” videos?
You can’t just store the data like your home videos, it has to be encrypted and stored securely so they can’t be tampered with.
And legally they (the PDs) are required to store videos for a period of time.

There was story about that case on the advocate yesterday... the dude actually got life and was sentenced as a habitual offender. He was appealing to the LA Supreme Court who upheld his conviction.
