Are you all really ok with Trump threatening to regulate a private business just because he is unhappy about his Google searches?

Talk about the ultimate snowflake meltdown.

If you've been paying any attention to his negotiating tactics you will understand he is urging Google and the like to do a better ob of managing their shite in a more fair and balanced method to keep government out of their business. The man is opinionated that is for sure. So is Google.

I agree. Regulating Google is counter to everything the right claims to stand for yet here they are celebrating the possibility of it. This is the essence of tribalism.

This republican doesn’t want govt intervention. I doubt trump asctually tries to intervene.

However, your attempt to point out hypocrisy is interesting. I thought democrats were all for regulating against discrimination. In California political affiliations are a protected class. Are you now against allowing government intervention when a private company discriminated against a protected class?

You do realize Google lobbied ti have regulations put on ISPs so that they didn't have to pay for their traffic. They then turn around and sell their search result hierarchy as an advertising agency. Must be nice to use the infrastructure provided by ISPs without having to pay for it like other businesses.

Big tech has been public-private collusion from the very start: LINK

This is not the same as a baker telling some freaks he's not going to bake them a cake.

I don't think the Gov should intervene in any private business. It already does that though.

1- I am ok with them not getting the protections they operate under. They are publishers now.

2- That opens them to law suits for stepping on peoples rights.

3- They are a monopoly. LINK

Example is what Google did to Warner. Google asked Warner if they could scrape his data and credit him. Warner declined, but Google did it anyway. The overall result was devastating:

In February 2016, Google started displaying a Featured Snippet for each of the 25,000 celebrities in the CelebrityNetWorth database, Warner said. He knew this because he added a few fake listings for friends who were not celebrities to see if they would pop up as featured answers, and they did. "Our traffic immediately crumbled," Warner said. "Comparing January 2016 (a full month where they had not yet scraped our content) to January 2017, our traffic is down 65 percent." Warner said he had to lay off half his staff.

Would not be happy if it actually came to pass, but I see this more like a body check in hockey.

The great thing about Trump is you never know if he is going to follow up or not, so you kinda have to take it seriously. This might just be nothing. Or will he could bring down a thunderstorm of regulation on them.

So hopefully Google (and others like Twitter, Facebook, Youtube, etc) will see this and start to straighten up.

Can we please, once and for all, get rid of the canard that Republicans are for smaller government?

Democrats want a big government, to tell you what to do, and to take all your money to control you.

Republicans want a bug government, to tell you what to do, and while they will let you keep some of your money, they want to borrow from your kids and grandkids to be able to get the money needed to control you.

The free market solution here is for another company to step up and challenge Google, if they feel there is a market for a competitor.
