Company happy hours w/ no spouses?

What you think about these?

The new job I work is a small office and has quarterly happy hours where the company picks up the tab. Spouses aren’t allowed tho. Why would I want to go drinking at a bar while my wife sits home? Or better yet, why would a husband sit home while drunk co-workers hit on and flirt with his wife? You’d think 8 hours is enough time for all that.

What you think about these people?

the company might not want to pick up the tab for double the group?

This is pretty common.

I don't see the issue.

Move along.

Seems odd for spouses to not even be allowed.

I was with you at first and was just going to say that this is part of the routine for the corporate/professional world

Then I realized you're bitching about something that happens once a quarter.

You sound like a front hole, get it together.

Every happy hour I've been to with coworkers has been right after work for maybe an hour. Why would spouses come?

Oh I get it. Your company is cheap. Invite your wife and pay your and her own way.

Sounds like they want to do a nice gesture but not get taken advantage of and spend a frick ton of money.

If you can bring your spouse, why not your brother or other family member?

They don't want the bill to double or triple with situations like this so they nix it from the beginning.

BR has a couple of law firms that do this. It's stupid as frick. People who 'break' the rule and invite someone(who pays for own drinks) are looked down upon. People who don't go are looked down upon.

This is an opportunity to relax and shoot the shite with your co-workers. You get to hang out with your wife all the time.

Assuming you don't hate the people you work with, it's nice to have some time to get to know them better over a few beers.
