(8/18/2018) On their Facebook page, the The Lincoln Parish Sheriffs Office announced one of their canines was killed while in pursuit of an attempted murder suspect from Monroe Friday night.
Police across the Arklamiss were alerted to be on the lookout for Vincent Roberson. He is accused of shooting his girlfriend in the head in Monroe Friday afternoon.
NBC 10's Chelsea Jones was live Friday night as officers searched for Roberson near Ruston.
Deputy say around 7:30 p.m. Friday night, Roberson was spotted in Lincoln Parish. Debi say he ran off when they approached him, and their canine Boco pursued him.
Officers heard gunfire and work on to locate Boco or the suspect.
Roberson was eventually found around 2 AM, and about an hour and 45 minutes later, they found Boco's body.
Put him down.
RIP, Deputy Boco.

Isn’t that just as bad as killing an actual human officer?

As for as the police departments are concerned, yes and it should be.
They are trained to do a job. They have senses and abilities that give police an advantage and like many of us who have dogs, they become our family members.

I'm no law expert... but I do believe that killing a police K9 will catch the same charge as killing a human officer/deputy
the K9 will also receive the same funeral honors as a human officer/deputy killed in the line of duty
RIP K9 Boco

So the perp shoots his girlfirend in the head, runs loose, and police send a K9 after him. WTF did they think would happen? Cops just hate dogs.

Here is another one... It can be fast forwarded to the 4 min mark, but as soon as that jackass saw the dog turned loose he threw his hands up to surrender and at that point it was too late..

You not getting away from a police k9. It can Ussain Bolt running from the cops, he isn't getting away because those SOBs do not stop until they do what they were set out to do.
I am in no way comparing my dog to a police K9.. She is a terrier mix, but if so goes after something she does not stop until she either gets what she is going after or call her. One night I noticed she was into something. She was going nuts. When I went check it out, it looked like a rabbit hole or something. I decided to just watch her and see when she will give up or if she comes up with something.
After about 10 mins, she had pretty much worked herself all the way into the hole. She smelled something and she was going to get to it come hell or high water. I had to bring her back inside, but for some reason it amazes me to see dogs able to sense something and get locked in getting whatever it is they smell.
Humans, if we smell something and can't locate it. If we can't find it after about a minute we move on and hope it goes or way or decide to look for it later...

It isnt the same penalty but a lot of states have given 10-15 year sentences for murdering a police dog.
