OSU President: Urban Meyer Investigation Will Be 'Finished When It's Finished'
quote:

Ohio State's investigation into head football coach Urban Meyer was initially expected to be completed within two weeks, but the university has no plans to rush matters in order to meet that deadline.

Ohio State president Michael Drake said during an interview with WOSU (h/t ESPN's Dan Murphy) on Thursday that the investigation "will be finished when it's finished." "There is a great deal of interest in this investigation," Drake said. "We wanted to make sure we had really good information, and there is time pressure.

We wanted to have that information as quickly as possible. ...The most important thing is to get good information so we can make the right decisions going forward."

"We've got to compile enough legally-sound evidence to fire people in the athletic department who don't really matter. Then we'll need to craft the PR message on why we're keeping Urban."

Maryland has already passed it in the headlines. Put it off and a couple more scandals will too.

If they found something already this investigation would be over and Urban would either be fired for cause or fired per a severance, doesn’t take this long to determine whether UM followed protocol or not particularly when a paid investigative body is committed to ascertaining just that, paper trail and the whole 9

The independent investigators said the investigation would end in 2 weeks.

The president said the investigation will be over when it's over.

How is that backing off the timeline?

Running that clock until the heat dies down and the perfect scapegoat ( needed or not) is identified

"If we just keep pushing back the timeline, maybe everyone will forget about this"

"Oh, you media guys remembered about this? Damn, we hoped you'd forget. We'll need a little more time and hopefully a few more other programs involved in worse stuff."

They want to keep Meyer, and time is on their side there. The longer it stays quiet, the easier the eventual escape hatch.

Making sure they don’t miss anything. Crossing t’s and dotting i’s. I’m sure it will be spun in some negative way though.

They must not have built a good enough case to not fire him. Because make no mistake, this wasn’t a investigation to find the truth. It was a investigation to find a way to keep him.

If Urban was gonna be let go (spoiler: he never was) then they’d have done it already. They’re just trying to craft the right PR message and look at other factors that might appease some of the mob
