I've been rejected from an entry level job because I didn't have enough experience. They actually told me that.

If this were true then the unemployment rate would be close to 70 percent
I'm talking about a job that requires experience and a certain amount of attained skill and knowledge on the job. They may not fire you right away, but they will definitely know and start figuring out how to replace you without compromising production at the moment. Like the OP said, someone who can barely hang as an accountant bullshits his way into a CFO position. Or someone getting an superintendent position but has the real knowledge of a journeyman helper. Everyone around you will know you bullshitted your way to the top or know one of the bosses, etc.

I'm more talking about moving to a position where most if not all the other candidates have significantly more experience. Maybe you had a personal connection to the hiring manager, or you killed in the interview, or a company just to a flyer on you because they liked your potential.
I've been running GE since 2017.

You can see why the job search process frustrates me so much. Oh and I interviewed with two people over the phone for that job, a recruiter in San Fransisco and a hiring manager in Vancouver. This was for a job in Baton Rouge. I never actually went to the office or talked to anybody there.

Are you at a certain large E+I company in BR?
If so I played ball for one of the head estimators as a kid. Only person I ever met from Cali that I actually liked. Dude can hammer the fish.

No wonder their stocks are in the crapper and removed from the Dow Jones

I'm assuming you're talking about ISC or MMR. We do E&I and Mech

From 2nd year associate at Big 4 to interim CFO of a <$20mm revenue business. Took all of 3 months to realize the learning curve, first year audit was a little tough, been smooth sailing ever since. I knew the equity group that purchased the business and asked me if I'd interview, surely wasn't the best candidate on paper but I did a great job in the interview.

My wife went from seasonal employment making $15/hr at a federal agency to developing policies for said federal agency in a matter of seven years.
She makes me feel dumb.

So the people who decided to hire you, did so without ever meeting you in person? That's good for you, but wouldn't like that idea if I was running a company.

I’m actually dealing with someone that bullshitted their way into my project. He doesn’t know it yet, but his last day is coming up soon.
I can work to help improve someone that delivers bad quality. I even expect younger, less experienced employees to do that. This guy frequently delivers nothing though.

At a certain level, you get sniffed out extremely quickly here (Big 4) if you were not truthful on your resume or CV.
It’s a little easier to get away with (at least for a while) for lower level positions.

For every applicant"s resume I every looked at I assumed only about half of the information was probably true.
I guess i need to start lying on my resume then. It ain't always easy being honest.

You laugh, but go look at entry-level job requirements now. They are what a Level II should be. I read something a while back that ~70% of all entry-level jobs require 3+ years of experience in their ads

No cause I have no balls and cant BS people like I'd like.

For instance, an associate in a law firm to GC, or non-partner CPA to CFO? Frontline management to C Suite? Not necessarily at the same company. How'd you get the job and how'd it work out?
I left a law firm as a tax/m&a associate to become CFO at a company. I knew the owner of the company, and they were willing to take a chance on me learning on the job, plus the outgoing CFO stayed for 6 weeks to help the transition
