Obviously it’s a measurement, but fundamentally what is being measured? Mass, heat, etc we (at least think) we have somewhat of a grasp on, but time seems a more elusive concept. The passage from one moment to the next, but why does that passage even occur at all. What is a moment?

Google says:

quote:

the indefinite continued progress of existence and events in the past, present, and future regarded as a whole.

But that seems to be a pretty lackluster definition.

So you run and you run to catch up with the sun but it's sinking
Racing around to come up behind you again.
The sun is the same in a relative way but you're older,
Shorter of breath and one day closer to death.

You’re getting too hung up on words. The word moment is used as a measurement of time just as numbers are. Google is correct in their definition. You just can’t wrap your head around space and time. Watch more Star Trek.

A constant measurement of an inconstant state. I’ve had weeks that flew by and moments that lasted for eternity.

Days drag by and then you blink and the years are gone.

Time is measured in how you spend it, not by the tyranny of the ticking clock.

I don’t know why anyone would ask this.

Time is just the progression of existence.

We measure it via our planet’s relationship with the sun and moon to apply standards.

How hard is that to understand?
