Yeah a mile is not that far if you are a trained swimmer. Should be able to do it in 30-35 minutes if she was in decent shape

Drunk
Nighttime
Wearing clothes

All make it harder to swim that distance. Clothes make it much harder

Has there been any mention from the authorities as to whether the boat was dismasted, or just had no mast and they motored out?

Based on what you're thinking happened, negligent homicide wouldn't fit. And Louisiana doesn't have "involuntary manslaughter." There is manslaughter, but that wouldn't fit either. If it happened the way you're thinking, then he wouldn't be charged. It would be just a tragic accident.

The only thing I see him being charged with is DUI. But only if he admits to operating the boat while drunk

Has there been a claim that the woman fell out of the boat? Otherwise the first two items in the above list do not go along with the third.

If the swim was voluntary, why would they have "normal" clothes on? If I'm out on a boat with a lady friend and decide to take a swim, the most I would be wearing would be a swimsuit or underwear, neither of which would hinder swimming very much.

lol. 99.9% of people could not swim a mile in 35 minutes. Even someone in great running shape. You'd have to take a bunch of breaks and what not. Plus open water swimming, not to mention with clothes on, is completely different. I mean I think most would take their clothes off first, but it still open water and without goggles. Not to mention who knows what the wind, waves, and current were doing.

My biggest question is how did they get separated?

Even IF they went swimming, how freaking drunk and stupid do you have to be to swim off a boat this in not anchored? I understand anchors break break, but with an anchor out unless the depth changed rapidly they should have been able to catch the boat.

You oughta have a life line run from your boat off the stern anyway

It's purely speculation at this point that they were drunk when they entered the water. She posted a snapchat from the boat Sunday morning. The coast guard received the report about the boat at 5:45pm Sunday, so they entered the water sometime during the day Sunday.

The absolute hardest part of Navy boot camp was the initial swim, not float and chill, swim

Two single people on a boat? Not to mention a sail boat without a mast, thing probably hit about 7 mph wide open throttle.

The chances of them being sober is like 1%.

If you are a trained swimmer which people are claiming she was swimming a mile in 35 minutes would easy for her. She must have been super hammered to not be able to swim that far

There is a lot of current in the lake in that area and I'm afraid they are searching the wrong area in their grid. They need to start concentrating in the South shore point and Seabrook area

This ended up being spot on

I'm a trained swimmer. I swam competitively and what not back in middle school. I am in half way decent running shape. I don't swim in a pool as exercise though.

If someone swam a couple times a week absolutely, 35 minutes is doable. I'm simply saying that even a good swimmer in normal shape but not routine swimming shape, would take a long time to open water swim 1 mile.

ETA: I definitely agree its odd if she was a good swimmer and was definitely in decent shape she didn't make it. But she could have got a cramp or something.

Again, this was not the middle of the night. The boat was empty and a helicopter was in the air two hours before it got dark.

How has the police not released the victim's story yet? Seems like if it was all truly an accident, they would have. Them holding the story leads me to believe there was some foul play or they are waiting on an autopsy possibly.

I'm going to laugh when this guy was like 275 lbs and claims that he out swam her.

1.7 miles in 2 days is not "a lot of current".... the entire search area went well beyond that point.

So the Cajun Navy gets in the water and finds the body in ten minutes.

Every other agency spent two days and found nothing.
