Authorities are searching for a missing 32-year-old woman they believe was one of two people in a sailboat that was found unmanned Sunday night (Aug. 5) in Lake Pontchartrain, according to the U.S. Coast Guard.

A man who was also on the sailboat before it was found unmanned was rescued from the lake shortly after 7 a.m. Monday, a little more than a mile-and-a-half north of New Orleans' Lakeshore Drive, said Coast Guard Petty Officer Brandon Giles. He said the man was in "good condition."

Giles said officials were still searching for the woman, identified as Sadie Thibodeaux, on Monday morning.

Strange. I don’t have think there was any weather issues in the last 24 hours that could have caused an accident

Weather? A sailboat is the last place I'd want to be in that teacup during a thunderstorm.

Lake must’ve been rough yesterday. Heard a Mandeville or Madisonville couple capsized their wave runner and had to float a couple miles to shore

dont ya love stories by lazy reporters with zero info

story "at minimum" MUST HAVE at least some mention on why there was no mast, was it broken or just not installed?

also again, "at minimum" it should include if authorities suspect foul play or not and what was the weather at time of any boating accident and if drinking was involved

its like this story was just a guy saw something posted on facebook and made a story out of it because he wrote it like he never talked to anyone who knows anything about the story

I had lunch on the Mandeville Lakefront yesterday. It was definitely very windy and pretty rough.

Sailing is a different deal completely than power boating.

All it takes is an inexperienced or distracted captain and one unexpected gust and you can capsize without warning.

Problem in that scenario is someone getting hit in the head as you go over and drowning while incapacitated.

Not saying foul play should be ruled out, but things can happen fast in a sailboat.

This really is a could have been me.

1986ish buddy buys a catamaran. Never sailed before neither had I. We go out on a beautiful Sunday afternoon and bim bam boom a storm pops up, flips the catamaran, snaps the mast and we float on lake P overnight till found by a fishing boat in the morning, coast guard came and fished us out...

So yeah it can happen in seconds. We never saw the storm coming

It's a 34' boat...

You can do that on a calm day...

You're comparing a wave runner to a 34' sail boat..?

and they, sailboat couple, were on the Southshore of the lake...
