Damn, old man. You’re ornery. You haven’t promoted or defended O, but you sure do whine when people point out his shitty resume.

And learn how to use the possessive case you uneducated frick. Oh, and thanks for yet again using the Saban analogy in respect of O. That’s an open display of stupidity. I wish O was 1/100th the coach that Saban is.

Go have some gumbo. Yaw yaw!

I'm not sure that's really possible. He can keep his job with a 7-8 win season but he's not going to magically be a respected head coach without showing he can bring our program back to a place of prominence by taking a step forward this year. If he's able to do that, the recruits and the respect naturally will follow. Another middling 7-9 win effort and recruiting will be a real battle this offseason.

If we only win 7 or 8 games and keep CEO we are looking at the 90's again.

Ree has so adamantly talked himself into a corner he is now saying that locking up the state, something that has been a priority for LSU head coaches since dinardo got Faulk to stay home, is no longer a priority.

Fantastic work ree, you have come back from vacation dumber than ever. Maybe one too many mai tais on the beach??

This year is critical for LSU. With Fisher at A&M and Smart building up Georgia, LSU must have at least a 10 win season, or we will take a big hit in recruiting.

We already lost a Destrehan player to Georgia. Saban and Fisher will try to raid Louisiana as well.

LSU has to win this year, or recruiting is going to take a big hit.

It's hilarious. but if O locks up the state he will say how important it was and O is the king of recruiting. He's so transparent.

What will he have to do to earn respect? Hell, Miles won it all and struggled to get respect here, let alone nationally. So, O will have to start (this year) by winning every game LSU is favored to win and 1/2 the games they are not favored-- while being competitive in any losses. He will need to beat Bama this year or next. He will need to compete for SEC title this year or next.
These are all minimums to have a chance at getting respect here and nationally. But following what happened to Miles, there are no guarantees.

LSU HC should seek to win. Who cares what pundits say about respect?

Win...and keep winning at a rate equal to or better than the coach we fired. It's that simple.

Like all respect, it has to be earned. And the more he craves it and asks for it through his surrogates before earning it, the more people will call it out and creepy and disingenuous.

What I think is illustrative is that people continue to act like there's nothing he could do to be respected, lone before he's actually done anything worthy of that respect. Shouldn't we wait until he earns it...or is that too much to ask?

Great post!

Until O puts up significant results, he's not going to be respected. People can bitch and complain about that all they want, but that's just the facts.

HOWEVER, Ogeron could not ask for a better opportunity to change the narrative than what lies ahead in 2018. His first game will be against a ranked (perhaps top 10) opponent at a less than "neutral" site (LSU fans should outnumber Miami fans at leas 2:1). He has to go to Auburn and Florida (not easy places to win), but the biggest potential prizes on the schedule (Bama and UGA) come to him. And for all the negativity surrounding the program right now, Tiger Stadium will be rocking for both games.

If O can win 10+ games this year then the local/national perception of him does a COMPLETE 180. He goes from being a buffoon who has never won anything to being a threat to return LSU to national powerhouse status.

This season is everything he could possibly want. He needs to fully embrace the challenge and quit worrying about his future job status. Take care of business this year on the field and his job status takes care of itself.

The schedule talk is such horseshite. It's no different than it's been in any previous year. It's always hard. Sure there are some outlier years, but when it wasn't UGA in the top 10 it was Auburn. When it wasn't Auburn it was UF. When it wasn't UF, it was South Carolina. We've opened with North Carolina, Oregon, Wisconsin, Washington, etc. in recent years. The SEC is always going to have a couple elite teams and a bunch of teams that can beat you any weekend. So what? We're opening with Miami this year as a top tier OOC opponent. So what? This isn't new stuff. We've done this before. Why is everyone so afraid of the schedule now? It shouldn't be an excuse for CEO as it wasn't an excuse for Les.

All the schedule does is prove what you are. In the past 2 decades we have been an SEC contender or top 3 at worst. So what's at stake this year? I'd say proving that we are still what I just said above. The last 4 years would show that's not true. Time to find out.

While I really think O will be back in 2019 as HC, I think this year is really going to set his trajectory at LSU. If he wins big, he'll go a long way to silencing his critics. If he loses, I doubt he gets fired, but he'll be essentially a lame duck coach going into 2019.

Re: recruiting, O was on a roll until this weekend. It was a huge misstep not to have a big event this weekend. Maybe Emery was headed to UGA all along, maybe he was on the fence and this visit there sealed it for him. Either way, LSU was caught at the plate looking and should have had something bigger planned.

Winning this season will go a long way for O's tenure here, and the recruiting class for 2019.

We can’t consistently go out of state and land marque players either if we aren’t winning. Louisiana, East Tx should come first . But your arguement that we will just go out of state won’t work either unless we are winning.

This is true. But we also have to acknowledge that the recruiting game for LSU is a lot harder. Saban at Bama is a given, but Kirby at UGA may even be a bigger issue. Then to the West, I know we love to poke fun at aggy, but let's not kid ourselves that Jimbo there is good for LSU recruiting. He's made it known he needs to lock down East Texas and make inroads into La.

I don't doubt that O can do it, but he definitely has his work cut out for him with three of the best recruiting staffs to directly combat now.

Yeah, he's completely moronic. Recruiting Louisiana is the lifeblood of the program. We aren't a national juggernaut recruiting program like Bama and Ohio St. In any given year at least 70% of the recruits will be in state players. LSU has had ties to Texas and Florida through assistant coaches on the team. Once those guys leave or get fired, we no longer have that recruiting stronghold. Not being successful also keeps many out of state guys from wanting to come to LSU.

Also, I wonder what he thinks will happen once Mullen improves Florida and Jimbo improves TAMU? Does he believe we can keep pulling twlent out of those areas winning 8-9 games yearly? We need to lock down the state to keep to players from championship caliber teams like Bama, OSU, OU, and UGA.

Yeah...that was adorable, wasn't it?

This was essentially what Saban came down and sold LSU on during his interview...that Louisiana puts out so many guys into the NFL players per capita that if you lock down LA you're always going to be loaded. You can then pick and choose from elite players from across the country to fill gaps...but it starts with fencing LA.

Now? Some fricking knuckle-head starts asking us if we've heard of the great players who were not from LA, as if that suggests the real goal out to be to avoid LA entirely and only recruit outside of our borders.

This hire seems to have made a portion of our fan base even stupider than before...
