They need to take the guy that intentionally set those fires and tie him to a tree as the fire approaches.

I heard it was from a car fire on the news this morning. We drove through that area on Wednesday on our way down to CA and we drove through smoke for a solid hour and a half. We're taking an alternate route back now because that whole route (199 through the redwoods) is closed now. The entire region looks like a tinderbox.

Jesus Christ, I need a few beers after reading this. Holy hell that is awful

quote:

He just kept saying 'Grandpa, come and get me," Bledsoe said, referring to 5-year-old James. "'The fire's coming in the back door. C'mon Grandpa.' I said 'I'm right down the road.'"
His granddaughter and wife were also on the phone, he said.
"Emily says, 'I love you, Grandpa.' Grandma said 'I love you, Grandpa ...' Junior said, 'I love you ... come and get us ... come and get us ...' I said 'I'm on my way ... ' He talked until he died."

He had left his home in Shasta County, California, on Thursday to go to the doctor, he told CNN on Sunday. The Carr Fire had been burning for four days at that point and Bledsoe said he didn't realize the fire was coming into his neighborhood.

He said his family was never told to evacuate.

That's absolutely terrible but I dont understand why anyone is waiting for someone to tell them when they should leave. People have to take it upon themselves to decide or it may be too late.

I say this as someone who has been through several natural disasters. You just have to take care of your shite as best you can.

Tough call. A lot of people lack situational awareness. OTOH you cant be evacuating every time theres a brush fire in the general vicinity. A fire can be burning on the other side of the mountain and you're in no danger unless the wind changes. This thing was like the tropical storm that blows up into a major hurricane overnight.

Why even chance it? Theirs and their grandchildren's lives were at risk. There's no getting their life back from the flames, but you can find a new place to live.

Seems like the grandparents were not very good in this situation and their grandchildren paid dearly. It's very difficult to stomach the thought they literally waited until the flames were on top of them before they realized their situation and grandma wasn't capable of being proactive.

Carr fire is named for an old time family from the area, named Carr. Among the other things named for them is the miniscule town of Carrville to the northwest of Redding and over a mountain range and up a now dammed valley that was placer mined back in the day.

During Civilian Conservation Corp time, there were several CCC camps up in those mountains that worked and cleared out massive amounts of dead timber up at the snowline. They moved as their work was done and seldom came down to the towns. Some of their kinfolk still remember those days.

I hate to see folks lose their homes. I especially hate to see children traumatized by the ordeal.

Prayers sent. Hang tuff Redding. We're with you.

I'm saying that the fire was caused by an actual automobile. Not arson as others have said. I'm aware that Carr is the name.

The fire started along Highway 299 near the Carr Powerhouse Road. A vehicle was pulling a trailer that had blown a tire, and sparks from the steel rim scraping along the road caught nearby vegetation on fire, Switzer said.

Eh...ok ok I’ll pray

dear make believe man in the sky, I know you apparently don’t have the power to prevent the fire in the first place, but I pray to you now that your powers can put it out.
