Originally in WaPo, but picked up nationally.

Link from my local paper

quote:

If President Trump wants to shut down the critics of his performance this week in Helsinki and strengthen U.S. national security, he can do so with one bold move: Announce he is moving out most U.S. forces currently stationed in Germany and sending them to Poland.

The Polish government recently presented Trump with a formal proposal to move U.S. troops from Stuttgart, Germany, to a new permanent U.S. military base in Poland. Trump should take up Warsaw on this offer.

Moving U.S. troops to Poland would be a bold, historic decision on par with Trump’s decision to move the U.S. Embassy to Jerusalem. Not only would it better position American forces, it also would completely flummox Trump’s critics in the U.S. foreign policy establishment. After spending the past week accusing him of being Putin’s puppet, they would look foolish if they turned around and criticized him for antagonizing Russia. And after attacking him for undermining NATO, they could hardly complain that he is taking unprecedented action to shore up the alliance’s Eastern flank.

Trump isn’t your typical politician. He’s not going to make a major move like that just to try to shut the media up.

I get his premise but this should be more about strategy than about poking the establishment in the eye in my view anyway.

I've been thinking the same thing ever since Merkel turned out to be such a worthless piece of shite.

Get our troops into an area that still upholds western civilization values and represents a more robust counter to any possible Russian expansion.

I don't think Russia really represents a military threat, so the western civilization defense is the stronger argument to me.

In Poland they would represent a bulwark against Islamist expansion as well - once they have taken control of Germany, France, UK, they might easily resort to military expansion towards those areas that do not foolishly welcome them.

Nothing Trump does will silence his critics. They are deranged.

I know it’s a pipe dream but we need to get away from doing things because it’s a political win.

Though I really like this policy regardless of its optics. Germany doesn’t deserve our help and Poland is one of the few places on the planet that loves America. I’d prefer to bring them home and save the money but if we are protecting anyone Poland should be that place.

In Poland, they’d be a sign to the Germans that we aren’t exactly friends anymore, and we’re more friendly with the Poles than with them.

So Trump should embrace a policy that undermines his foreign policy, in order to appease critics who will never be happy with him?

How does that make any sense?

Im really getting annoyed with all of these articles/comments ive seen for a while that seem to imply that:

"If Trump wants people to stop calling him a Nazi, he would do XYZ" as if somehow their initial infantile hyperbole was somehow valid in the first place.

Its a Joke because lets say he even did do what they said, those same people would flip on it and complain about it in an opposite way.

EDIT:

Because its a trap.

Ding ding ding.

Same thing with tax returns a couple years ago. He's not going to give in to pressure just to appease people, especially when they will pick apart and twist the contents to use against him.

I fear they underestimate the power of T.D.S.

How about this:

Cut the forces in Europe by half. Relocate the remaining forces in Germany to Poland minus the airbase. Send the forces removed from Europe to current bases surrounding China.

Or send them to the Mexican border.

If Vladimir Putin flies to Mexico, crosses the US border and goes to San Francisco or Chicago, he can vote, right?
